Firstly congratulations on kicking the pathetic waste of breath out of your house. A real man wont sit there and complain he can not get what he wants when he wants it - he will try and earn the money rather than sponging from someone who couldnt afford it so went and paid on credit.
One thing you may be able to do (I dont know what car you have) is to trade in your current car in at a dealership and purchase a much cheaper car with no finance! This will help your monthly outgoings no-end.
I recently did this and went from a car worth in this current climate £3500 to a car worth less than 1/10th that! it goes, put in the equivelent of just over one months car finance payments to buy all the parts to fix its issues and repaired it myself (I am lucky I am quite mechanically minded) - meaning I have what is currently quite a reliable car for just £450.
and if anyone kicks it, scrapes it, bangs it in asda's car park - I couldnt care less!£4142.49/ £131,795.91 - 3.14% paid off or only £129,608.80 to go!

I don't mind cutting the presents down as my family/friends are quite understanding!
As for clothes I don't really buy any, only when absolutely necessary -the figures that I used are what was suggested by CCCS - online debt rememdy.
My son buys his own clothes and pays for his own travel costs out of his EMA. I pay his mobile phone. He is really good and does not go over his minutes but I am locked in until November 2011. When he manages to earn any money usually working for his dad this is for his spends, gym etc. Luckily he understands the situation and does not nag me for anything.
I am currently using up what is in the food cupboard/freezer and everything that I have at the end of the month will go into a savings account and hopefully this will then be offered to a creditor. I did this many years ago and saved £3500, although at that time any overtime I worked went into this too. In my current job I don't have the same opportunity to work over, or if we do its usually taken in lieu.
I don't really think I can cut much down on my food bill as this includes the pet food. I will try though as a penny saved means more off my debt.
I use Makro for the kitty food which equates to 1 tin per day which totals on average of £10.34 and then I buy a huge bag of biscuits to supplement this which totals £3.38 With the dogs I pay £10 for a large bag which will last me all month. Things like pets soon add up, but the unconditional love you get from them is unbelievable!:)
Did not add on my APR's as it was very late last night when I posted my SOA.Total debt £[STRIKE]37864.78 [/STRIKECOLOR=purple][STRIKE] £31681.03[/STRIKE] -£16700

Hello pet, you are a survivor so well done on posting. You have made many friends on here. Well done on having pets. Dont worry you must keep them as they are a blessing and will help you realise how loved you are.
You sound like an expert anyway, I am new but have you tried dropping a brand at the supermarket? & taking lunches to work. That's what i am doing.
Good luck

The SOA was done late last night so I never got around to posting the APR's for the various debts.
To be honest I am too afraid to ring the companies involved and ask them what the current APR's are? I have already contacted them offering a token payment but as yet need to set up the standing orders to them, and feel that they would pressurise me into going through my situation over the phone which would result in me sobbing have to relive it all again.
I am just in the process of checking over the statements to see if it shows anywhere on them? Will update as found.
I am not really sure if I can cut down on my food bill of £213.00 per month, as I have 2 cats and 2 dogs the cats food costs around £13.00 per month and the dogs is £10.00 so straight away this takes the amount down to £189.00 which equates to £43.61 per week for 2 adults plus washing powder and cleaning essentials....is this really possible??
Spends today so far £5.99 groceries.
Aiming for total no spend for the rest of the week!
Got a viewing on the house on Wednesday too
Plus I checked my bank statement today to find out that the Car finance company was not satisfied with me paying the monthly payment early by debit card they have taken it again by DD even though they stated that there would not be enough time to set one up. Cheeky Blighters..one phone call later money refunded 3-4 days which means that I can now pay NPower the outstanding debt (even though its in joint names and he is refusing to pay )Total debt £[STRIKE]37864.78 [/STRIKECOLOR=purple][STRIKE] £31681.03[/STRIKE] -£16700

The car that I currently have is a 58 Corsa I have had this since new (hubby did not like my last car and insisted that we changed it even though it was 4 years old, I had from new it sold for £2200.00 part exchange it only had 36000 miles on the clock!)
I paid £1200.00 deposit too so I think that the finance outstanding is around £6893.60 this is the balance outstanding although a settlement figure would come in a lot cheaper as the apr is 17.9%.
I have thought about this but wasn't too sure what to do. I don't really use my car much unless its to work and back which is 12 miles return (not on the main bus route!) The furthest that I actually go is probably is in a 40 mile radius, in the summer maybe a couple of trips to the coast but not all that often to be honest so I could downgrade the car.
Would you suggest that I take it back to the dealership where I bought it from? How do I know what is a fair price for what they are offering me?Total debt £[STRIKE]37864.78 [/STRIKECOLOR=purple][STRIKE] £31681.03[/STRIKE] -£16700

To savingwannabe
I try and buy all supermarket brands apart from my son's cereal as the supermarket equivalent was 3 x's as much sugar as the branded cereal.
Oh and he insists on Branston beans! I usually buy these when they are on offer and stock up!
I use Tesco at the moment for my shopping as I usually collect the points and use them for treats for the family such as meals out at Bella Italia and Hungry Horse. Last year I used them for a trip to London and bought no end of sight seeing tickets etc.
Clubcard vouchers current total £77.00 = £308.00 in deals tokens
plus I have £80.00 currently in meal deal vouchers for Bella Italia etc. Saving this for my daughters 18th which is shortly!
Both my son and I take packed lunches.Total debt £[STRIKE]37864.78 [/STRIKECOLOR=purple][STRIKE] £31681.03[/STRIKE] -£16700

Ok, you're doing great. I wonder if the best first step for you would be a spending diary?
Glad you will be able to get rid of the Npower debt.
Dot.Pay off as much as you can in 2012 challenge No. 64: 328.75/2,5000 -
Have paid the Npower debt off although received a letter stating that they would accept £11.00 per month for the next 12 months. So I just paid it, one down and all that and I have amended my debt total although this might go up as they put the charges and late payment fees on
Have also set up a £5.00 monthly token payment to each of my creditors paid by Standing Order so I can adjust the amounts if need be.
I am determined to get out of this debt at some point or other in my life, I know it may take some years to pay it off but at least I have made a start and that is the main thing. I am feeling more positive than when I first postedalthough it is still a bit scary just waiting for the creditors to accept the payments.
OMG the amount of letters that they send demanding a payment and telephone calls even though I have only just missed one !!Total debt £[STRIKE]37864.78 [/STRIKECOLOR=purple][STRIKE] £31681.03[/STRIKE] -£16700
