Thanks PP, do you know what the reason is - so I can make an informed descision. If it's a tummy ache then I'll take the risk, but don't reallly want to bump anyone off what with it being Christmas and all that!

As I mentioned, for food like that it's usually because it's been previously frozen. Food safety guidelines say that you shouldn;t refreeze food but as long as you've not taken chances, such as leaving it in a hot kitchen for hours on end, I would take the chance :D That said, it's your call.

  • I would say if you do decide to freeze it and eat it later - I am not giving an opinion on what you should do though - do not give it to your small child. The reason cooked food which has previously been frozen is deemed unsuitable to refreeze is that the bacterial growth rate can be much higher on the second thawing, making it potentially high risk. Unfortunately there's no way of knowing why the manufacturer warns you not to freeze, it could simply be quality. Things used to say "has been previously frozen" on them, but they don't tend to do that now, no idea why.

Will only use for us adults though I think just in case.

Love the snow for getting bargains at the supermarket!

    :rotfl: That made me laugh!

I would definately freeze it but I would cook it thru in gravy as you said... I wouldn't use it as it is, ie in sandwiches
  • I have made a biscuit base for banoffi pie and as usual there is way too much, it is simply butter and digestives, can I freeze what is leftover for next time because it is eyeing me saying eat me and my hips could do without it :)

I don;t see a reason why not :) I'll add this to the What Can I Freeze? thread later to keep ideas together.

Given that you can freeze whole cheesecakes and tortes as well as cookies I reckon there would be no problem with that, You could even freeze it in the dish you use for banoffee pies then pop out to keep a disc of base ready for next time.

I have put it in little ramekins so all I have to do is lift them out the freezer a couple of hours before I make it next time
