Hi,
Just a quick question, a friend has given me the cooked crabmeat from 2 freshly caught spider crabs - lovely, thing is I don't really have time to do anything worthy with the meat tonight or Tomorrow..so I was wondering can you freeze cooked crabmeat ? and does it taste as good after its been frozen - as I am aware some fish/seafood is really not as good post freezing..
TIA

Yes, it's fine, although there isn't a huge amount of meat on spider crabs (I think of them more as an activity than a meal
). If they're really fresh, best thing to do would be to have a nice crab salad for lunch or supper tomorrow - maybe invite someone over to share them if you can't eat it all yourself.

Theres actually a surprising amount of crabmeat from them - must have been big uns
I have found couple of recipes I can't wait to try : Thai crab cakes and Seafood Pancake - yum, but with work and other commitments I wont get a chance till mid-week !! think I'll try freezing them.....
Thanks

Never had any problem freezing crabmeat. I wouldn't keep it for more than a few weeks frozen though.0

I'm lucky as I live on the coast and can literally buy it off the boat. So I either eat the day I get it or the day after or freeze it for use later. I would have thought only a few days but i'm really not sure so don't quote me0 -
As this has fallen from the front page of Old style, I'll add it to the existing thread on what you can and can't freeze:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0

I don't think there is hardly anything that I haven't frozen at some point I have at the moment 4 different sorts of cheese in my freezer now.Brie, bousin, roqufort and some canadian chedder, all of which I bought a few weeks ago in a reduced items sale at the supermarket .most of these will be used up in cooking either in pasta, mashed potato's or perhaps soups. They were such a good price that I just couldn't resit them.I'm not keen on semi skimmed milk being frozen but thats just a personal taste as I know its quite possible to do it.Next to my Slow Cooker I think the freezer is a persons best friend in the kitchen as it helps you by not having to throw stuff away thats left over .Yesterday I made three and a half litres of soup from 2 pouches of chicken stock, left over from previous chickens, from my freezer and leeks, carrots, onions, peas, mushrooms ,peppers, cauliflower & brocolli all of which came from my freezer I now have four big batches of soup ,three of which are in the freezer for another time and one I have in the fridge to have for lunch for at least three days this week with some crusty bread.0

Hello all.
I was wondering weather there was a thread about types of foods that can be frozen? Ive read about cheese, butter. Also, Recipies such as shepheards pie, bolognase, apple pie etc? ( thats about all i know lol )
With the kids and husband back at school and work, I wanted to batch cook things to put in the freezer, especially as the weather starting to get colder.
Is there such thread? Or where is the best place to look for ideas.
Thank you for reading
Edit. I also have a slow cooker ( ive saw the slow cooker threads, they are great!) can you freeze anything left from the slow cooker food?Looking forward to winning lots of competitions :j
Good luck everyone0 -
Hi Rayne Bow,
I frequently cook extra portions in the slow cooker specifically for freezing. This thread may be what you're looking for:

These threads have lots of advice on bulk cooking for the freezer:

And this is a good thread to ask questions about specific things you would like to freeze:

Hope this helps. I'll merge your thread with one of the others once you've had more replies.
