Couch to 5k Running - Part Two

Can I join in the party? I did my W1R1 today, it was a beautiful morning out there.
I've been doing a little bit of interval running from another programme for the last 5 weeks so I think I will move straight on to week 2 on my next run on Tuesday and see how it goes from there.
I'm so inspired by all of you - I've signed up for an 8k race in September so can't back out, DH is running a half marathon the day after that so we will support each other.
It was so much easier just doing it to the podcast rather than checking my watch0 -
Well done to those of you who ran yesterday and this morning.
Drea - well done on getting those 28 (or 27?) minutes done. I think someone on Ullrey's website commented on one or two of his podcasts not being quite right (a minute or two shorter than they should be).
Sammy_Girl - you might have already mentioned it (or I may have asked :S) but what is the GPS thing that you're using? It sounds good, especially as it measures your speed.
I did wk7 run1 yesterday. I was considerably slower than last time and felt like I couldn't have ran another second when I stopped. But I did it... that's the main thing.
Oh, and welcome spinmeit's good to have a goal (race) to look forward to... I would imagine it spurs you on! Good luck.

I am about to start this....well Wednesday after my mate has gone home...I just have a few questions...
When's the best time to run? For me I think in the morning whilst the parks are still quiet - as there's a few weirdos about in the evening.
What's the best thing to wear? Can I wear my gym gear?
What about carrying water - do I just shove a bottle in my bag and strap it on?
I'm going to go up to the full 5k, but what if I want to do more? Do I just repeat the podcast for the 5k and carry on?** Total debt: £6950.82 ± May NSDs 1/10 **** Fat Bum Shrinking: -7/56lbs **
**SPC 2012 #1498 -£152 and 1499 ***
I do it all because I'm scared.

Hi elfin the best time to run depends on you. On this forum we appear to be divided between the larks and the owls. Personally I prefer the morning, it feels good to get it over and done with;)
Also wear whatever you like or in my case whatever still fits. In this heat though fabrics that breathe are usually best. I don't carry water but I might have to review that if it stays this hot but I also don't think I have been going fast enough to require any but I do have a good drink beofre I leave. As for what happens after 5k I am only just getting there. I think someone mentioned a 5-10k podcast somewhere back on this forum.
Well done sammy_girl busiscoming and completelylost and to all the newbies. drea you make me laugh:DEnough money to live on so retired early...planning to see where life takes me:D0 -
I completed week 3 this morning! I'm sooooooo chuffed with myself that i may treat myself to some "proper" running clothes!
thanks for the inspiration guys :TLBM 04/10:j

Good going everyone :j
I decided to buy myself some cropped running trousers today. Unfortuantely had 2 children with me, so trying on wasn't best option. They are hideous - skin tight which isn't a good look with my fitted t-shirt:eek:. Disappointed as was hoping to wear them tomorrow morning.
Tomorrow is the day of 'Tracys 5kms Tea Shop Challenge!'
Kids are desperate to go swimming (having been promised for ages) so that's first. Should officially be Wk8, Run3, but feel I need to make some progress for the distance. If I walk for a couple of mins, then so be it.
Just realised that my last couple of posts have shown me motivated by cake and wine :rotfl:Now proud Mumto3 :j0 -
elfen - I'm very much a night-time runner (9-11pm) but others do it early morning... and some through the day! I guess it depends on when you feel at your best, or what you can fit it in.
As for clothes... I don't have anything special, just a plain tshirt from primarni, a pair of £9 jogging pants and cheapie trainers -- definitely want to get some fitted at some point!)I don't bother taking water with me as I don't feel that I need it. I'm only 5mins from home though (running track is literally across the road)
Mumto2, where did you get the running trousers from? I could do with something 3/4-length (no way will I ever wear shorts! the world isn't ready for my corned beef legs just yet).0 -
elfen I have a pair of just below the knee leggings/running/gym trousers from the Pineapple range at Debenhams and have just bought a cheap £9 pair from M&S, I just wear an old polo shirt I had hanging around and my old trainers.
I prefer to run first thing in the morning as I have more energy then! I carry a small water bottle with me - wouldn't manage without it!! I stick my MP3 into my bra and stitched a key ring into the waist of the leggings for my door key.
Good Luck!0 -

I got mine from JJB as I was passing there, but guess most places would do them. A lot of the looser ones were quite thick tracksuit material though, which I didn't want for the summer.
Busiscoming - love your place for the MP3 player! :rotfl:Mine might have to go there as well, would stop my hands from being so sweaty! Now proud Mumto3 :j0 -
To those asking about clothing, these are the pants that I have:

Before, I was wearing jersey jogging bottoms, and i can really feel the difference in these. They're not all heavy and sweaty and very comfortable to run in. Mumto2 - they are meant to be super tight - as they are designed more like tights. I was quite nervous to wear mine the first time (im a size 12 on the bottom btw) but now I love them. So I say, wear yours - you will def feel the benefit!!
Well done everyone - esp the ones who got out in this heat. Im glad I went out very early before it got too hot!
Completely Lost - I use the Runtastic App on my IPhone. It's the basic free app but very good. It even has a 5k run, so it will tell you when you have reached 5k.
Drea - How naughty, I can't believe we've been thinking we're running 28 min when its actually 27 min and 7 seconds lol. Doesn't Mr Ullrey know, that every second counts!!!0
