As long as you're enjoying what you're doing there's nothing wrong with doing more than 3 runs. It will be better for you to do it and achieve it than push on too soon and not be able to finish. But you're not too old - there's someone in Women's Running magazine who runs marathons at 76!
Thanks for that! Although its not the age that some people run at that was bothering me - it was starting to run for the first time. I know people can do some remarkable things in their later years - was interested to read about the lady who took up golf aged 88 & just got a hole in 1 now she is 90! Also, my grandma was pretty active up until the age of 95. Sadly she then had a fall and could not get about as fast. Last year, aged 100 she had a knee replacement, and earlier this year (now 101) had a cataract removed. She still lives on her own & has a great sense of humour! We took her out to the seaside today, & she enjoyed watching the waves crashing over the sea wall!0 -
Evening,
I've just done week 5 run 2 and am feeling pleased with myself
To anyone who has got as far as the first 20-minute run (wk5 run 3), can you tell me honestly how difficult you found the jump from 8 mins to 20?
Juno - 5k in 32 minutes sounds like a brilliant time to me. Have you been running for a while and/or did you just follow this plan? Just curious, you don't have to answer.0 -
I seem to have the opposite problem from everyone else. My breathing is fine, I don't get all that out of breath and my lungs don't struggle. It's my bloomin' legs that stop me!
It'd be interesting to go back to week one and see what it's like now... might do that at the endJust because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.0 -
Drea, I have found the same these past couple of weeks. My breathing is fine but my ankles and hips burn. But I find it gets to a certain level of 'burning' and then it just seems to go. Maybe I become less aware of it the tireder I get? Who knows.0

I won't lie, it isn't easy! But it was more the first 10 minutes that I found difficult and after then I just seemed to be in a "zone" and struggled through. It is my legs that ache though, not so much my breathing so I'm not sure how it'd be if you have trouble with that? Definitely do-able though and you'll feel so good for having done it afterwards
Juno started with me when I did it first time around and posted the first threadmust be a year or so now Juno?

Yeah, I've been running for just over a year now. I haven't been running 3 times a week all that time - I've had gaps where I haven't run at all! And I've just got back into it after last year's half marathon - I ran about half of it and it was a lot harder than I thought. And very painful.

Hello, Please can I join in the challenge. You have all inspired me to give it a go.
I hit the big 40 last year ( aggh!!) and have decided bits of me are definitely more wobbly than they used to be! I've never run before although I have talked about going out jogging lots. My husband raised eyebrows when I said I was going out for my first run but has promised that he will take me out for a night of my choice if I stick to it and manage the 5k. Paris would be nice in the summer!!
I did my first run on Sunday and even though I was very pink faced , I was very proud I managed to finish. My thighs are still sore today so I plan to to do second run tomorrow. I plan to get up early before anyone is around. I'm sure it would be easier to fit in at night but I'm frightened I would see someone I know.
I'll report back hopefully tomorrow after Run 2.:)
