    Ooof my legs ache today!

I only did my 5k distance, but during and immediately after it felt harder than usual. And my legs today are telling me it was. I think it's because the music made me run faster than I normally would; I knocked about 10 mins off my 5k time

And I would have gone out and bough a heart rate monitor :o:rotfl:

But thanks for testing it out for us :D I'll wait til I finish week 9 and then I might give it a go!

Well done to everyone who's completed their run today :j See, we're all getting there - keep it up!!

I haven't done my run, yet:o I got up at 6am ready to go and it was torrential rain; hasn't stopped yet. I don't want to get my new running shoes dirty.:(

I have a heart rate monitor somewhere. I bought two, years ago, when they were on special offer. My son tried his on and then took it straight off, saying that he couldn't breathe and that he now had sympathy for women wearing bras:D

Well done to those that have done their runs.
RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

I've decided that I'm doing the Great North Run to raise money for Cancer Research, and they've sent me a t shirt :j

My daughter did that last year. She said the worst bit was walking the mile back to the station after the run, with aching hips. There isn't any nearby parking.

MissMoneypenny when people smile I assume they are thinking 'good on you' which is what I always thought when I saw people running and couldn't run :)

Thanks belfastgirl. That's what I use to think too when I saw beginners running, as I drove past in my car:D

Hello - can I come skulking back please? I have been awol for a while but as OH and I have decided to go on holiday I am not lying on a beach looking like this. It gave me the kick up the backside I needed so I downloaded week 1 on my MP3 and went to the gym this morning. I have a face like a beetroot but its a start. I'm gonna be brave (mad) and take a pic of myself in my bikini (assuming I can still get into it) and take another one each week as motivation. So anyway week 1 run 1 - done! :j

I would advise doing a week or so of solid 5k runs before you attempt this. I can run 5k, but week 1 of that was a lot harder. I would imagine that if you were at the stage where you can only just run 5k you'd find it impossible.

Thanks so much Juno for the feedback re the 5k to 8k programme, my instinct was to hold off on starting it till the 5k felt 'solid' to me :) and I think you've confirmed it. Out of interest, what is your 5k time? I finally got around to timing properly this morning (another 5k done, yay!!) and it was 36 mins pretty much dead on. It didn't feel as hard but I was running with DH who was doing a recovery run - he's a proper has done a marathon type so my running was wee buns to him :) although I have to say he was really good about going slow enough for me. I only thought I was dying three times which is an improvement on other times :D

Welcome back PepPop, believe me I know the feeling you're talking about :)

And well done all the sunday runners.

I did last year's Race For Life with my sister in 42 mins.

My best 5k time is just under 35 mins. Usually I am nearer 40 though.

Thanks, it's nice to feel 'normal' :D I'm surrounded by people who do 10 mile runs at about 8 mins a mile and it makes me feel a bit inadequate although I do know really that I'm only competing with myself, you've made me feel a lot better!!

I can swim a lot further than any of them though :)

Well done on the RFL by the way!

I think about 40 mins for 5k is "normal". I know some people can do it in 15 mins but I think they're weird. There's even people who can run half marathons in just over an hour

Last year I raised £100 with Race For Life :) This year, as I'm doing Race For Life and Great North Run I'm doing both for Cancer Research (have I said that enough yet?) and I'm only expecting people to sponsor me for the whole thing not twice. That sounds wrong because I'm not actually expecting as people can either sponsor me or not, but I'm sure you get what I mean.
