    Thanks girls :)

gateway to 8k sounds good - its heading in the right direction :D But those BPMs scare me. I have absolutely no idea what my heart rate is!!!! Does anyone use a heart rate monitor?

Drea - Sorry about your leg :( Why don't you see how you feel on Sunday? Give yourself 2 days rest instead of 1? Hope it feels better soon.

I'm thinking I might sign up for one of the Race for Life 5k challenges. There's quite a few around so might find one for when I finish Week Nine. Could be a good motivator I guess!
See I got the impression that the BPM was the tempo of the music, as it's a dj site. So you have to run at the faster bits, and the faster tempo inspires you to go faster. We need a volunteer to try it out - Drea?!

This year will be my 3rd Race For Life so I'd encourage you all to do it if you want to :) When you get there, other people are planning to walk or jog slowly so you won't be out of place - and as long as you complete it you've achieved something! You can see me and my sister last year here. Just do make sure you plan your travel carefully - it gets very busy! We set off at about 9am for an 11am start, as if you're early they do a warm up. And if you're going in fancy dress at least practise wearing it round the house, as some looked difficult to run in! There's also the issue of if you wear a tutu and tights people can see your bottom

Oh I'll have to pass on trying it out ;) my leg hurts don't you know :rotfl:

Going to go out for Week 6, Run 1 in about an hour. I should probably take an extra rest day but I just want to go out there. I'll try refrain from running both Saturday and Sunday like I've been doing the past couple weeks!

I did the Race for Life with my mum a couple years ago. It was a good day, we were just walking back then though. The Edinburgh one goes up Arthurs Seat (a big hill) though so I couldn't imagine running it.

    I think I'm dying.

I tried that podcast, and I was right. You don't need any fancy equipment like heartrate monitors; we are beginners! When I first started I had £4 asda trainers and my daddy's old t shirt. Today I had £100 vibrams and my cancer research vest top

The man waffles a lot at the start. You get like a minute of introduction before the 5 min warm up! So I got fed up and started running a teensy bit early, and my first run was probably 30 seconds or so longer. He made it sound really complicated with run when you hear one bing noise, and walk when you hear a different one, but when you actually get going it's easy as you just swap what you're doing at the noise.

I completely mistimed the runs though, and thought there were 5 not 4. So I ended up miles away from my house (well, half a mile further than usual) when I should have been starting the cool down. So I added in an extra run at the end.

I swear the new shoes are magic. Even after the 40 mins of torture with extra run I still felt like I could sprint the last bit (apparently sprinting at the end is good for something or other, so I normally do) but I thought I'd better not push it. I love them :j

Well done Juno :) first step to 8k :D

Just did Week 6, Run 1. I struggled a bit but my head wasn't in it so I blame that ;)

Managed to get myself out for run 3 of week 3 this morning, felt like I struggled majorly though, more likely due to too many beers last night! I was dying during the second 3 minute run, I was so grateful to hear that I only had one minute to go as was just about to give up ... but stuck with it and made it through.

I'm tempted to do week 3 again next week - I now feel like I could run longer, but I get so puffed so quickly that my lungs just can't take it. And I got a stitch after the second 90 run, so had to stop and stretch for a few minutes. I'll see how I'm feeling on Monday before I decide. So next run Monday for me.

Congrats to everyone, especially those running more than 15 mins - I feel that it is in sight! Go go go!
    :)

Oh yeah, forgot to add that I'm also doing a Race for Life in July - one of the reasons I'm sticking so well to my running plan :) My goal is to run the whole 5K - I sort of feel that I'm on track for it :)

    Hi folks,

Tonight I should be doing week 5 run 2, but I forgot to upload the week 5 podcast so ended up doing week 4 again on Thursday. It completely knocked me sick, I had to sit down in the middle of a field when I'd finished :S Maybe I was going a bit too fast...

Week 5 run 1 tonight anyway... I've just noticed that it's 3x5 minutes which is 1-minute less than week 4?!

I am at the same point as you and was thinking the same about repeating week 3, it seemed so hard running for 3mins. Maybe I'll try week 4 run 1 and then decide if I need more practice!!

Yeah, but all the runs are the same length. You haven't got the shorter recovery run in between. If you're really upset about it you could run an extra minute though.

You don't have to repeat the whole week. You could just do one extra run of week 3 and see how you go.

Not upset at all... quite pleased actually, as it didn't seem as difficult as week 4.

So yeah, I've done wk 5 run 1. Next are the 2x 8-minute runs on Monday  Seems like quite a big jump from 5-mins to 8-mins, but I'm going to just go with it and see how I do :)

Ooops, now I feel silly :o

And I would have gone out and bough a heart rate monitor :o:rotfl:

But thanks for testing it out for us :D I'll wait til I finish week 9 and then I might give it a go!

Well done to everyone who's completed their run today :j See, we're all getting there - keep it up!!
