Bit worried I've injured myself. My right leg was sore after Week 5, run 2 but I did run 3 anyway. It's hurting again today. I don't want to take a break :(

    There's a "gateway to 8k" here but I don't know of any 10k ones

That's the programme for the 8k one. Imagine running for 50 minutes....

Well yes, but a few weeks ago could you have imagined running for 5 minutes or whatever?

I've decided that I'm doing the Great North Run to raise money for Cancer Research, and they've sent me a t shirt :j

The training plan I'm following says currently I should be running about 35 mins, so I'm doing 5km 3 times a week. It doesn't seem like enough, but I'm sure the training plan knows best.

Okay I really wanted to multiquote my answer but I can't even find the place to find out how to do it :) not usually this technically incompetent.

Sammygirl have been wondering about increasing from 5k but won't in the short term because I'd like to start adding in some hills and maybe speeding up to something approximating a decent time. I looked up my local running club and they quote a 12 min mile as the slowest possible time and that's about me :( and their minimum run is about 6 miles. surely there must be other people like me out there!!

Oh and I didn't every use the podcast, I don't like wearing an ipod to run, always worried about someone sneaking up behind me after the whole flipflops incident :D good luck with the 25 mins btw, it will fly by!

Juno thanks for the gateway to 8k programme, actually 8k sounds a lot more manageable than 10k. but it exemplifies my problem with all of the programmes moving on from 5k, they all sound really complicated. I don't even use a HRM when I run - can't seem to get the band to fit properly over my sports bra :o and the watch irritates me. And would have absolutely no chance of doing a specific heartrate for a specific time period, surely you'd spend the whole time looking at your watch? I just want something that says 'run 5 mins then walk' ;)

MissMoneypenny when people smile I assume they are thinking 'good on you' which is what I always thought when I saw people running and couldn't run :)

Here's to a nice weekend. I am making my commitment to do another 5k on Sunday morning and I may try to build in a little hill just as a starter :) watch this space.

    Thanks girls :)

gateway to 8k sounds good - its heading in the right direction :D But those BPMs scare me. I have absolutely no idea what my heart rate is!!!! Does anyone use a heart rate monitor?

Drea - Sorry about your leg :( Why don't you see how you feel on Sunday? Give yourself 2 days rest instead of 1? Hope it feels better soon.

I'm thinking I might sign up for one of the Race for Life 5k challenges. There's quite a few around so might find one for when I finish Week Nine. Could be a good motivator I guess!

    Hi everyone,
yeah - long weekend. boo - weather! Going to go out this morning before the rain starts here (doing Wk6, Run 1).

Drea - hows the leg? Take it easy, why not chuck in couple of extra rest days, we've been flying through it for the last while.

Sammygirl - I've entered the local race for life. I did it once I reached Wk3 and was hopeful that I would be able to run at least part of it. Coincidentally the one I've entered is at the end of Wk9. I'm quite motivated by watching the sponsorship money add up & also that I've gone 'public' to people about what I'm doing.

Have a good weekend & happy running
