Couch to 5k Running - Part Two

It seems to be the same program, but instead of run/walk it gives you different BMP (beats per minute?). I find running much more harder than walking, even if thespeed is the same. If you are like me, I would start running instead of walking very very fast.
Are you using heart rate monitor with your program?
Yes ginvst, the programme does BMP, increasing with each pocast both the BMP and lengthening the podcast. Eventually you are supposed to be running all 5 km, then theres a program for 8km and 10km too!- now I'm here...
WEEK 3 25 minutes from 130 to 140 BPM
BPM CHART:
5-minute warmup @ 130 BPM
90 seconds @ 140 BPM
90 seconds @ 130 BPM
3 minutes @ 140 BPM
3 minutes @ 130 BPM
90 seconds @ 140 BPM
90 seconds @ 130 BPM
3 minutes @ 140 BPM
4-minute 10-second cooldown @ 130 BPM
I do use a heart rate monitor, and it gets my heart rate up to working in the training zone somewhere between 60% - 70% I think, sorry to be so vauge but I went on loads of websites and it seemed very varied what my training zone is (my resting heart rate is 60). There's a few hills on my route so maybe thats what gets my heart rate up. I will try and start running though I feel a bit silly since its very slow running, and I invariably go too fast get out of beat and eventually out of breath! I only seem to know 2 speeds - walking fast or actual running, I never quite got the jogging down.
Are you me?? Seriously, height, weight, dodgy knees and superfit hubby are all the same. Although I might be a bit more overweight than you (11.3/ 72 kilos) And if it's any inspiration I'm now up at the 20 min nonstop run.
Be sure you have properly fitted shoes though or your knees will go on you
Sounds like we could be twins Belfastgirl! Hubby's mum is actually from NI, with your name I'm guessing you are too?!
I have a pair of scketcher sports shoes. I'm not sure if they are made for running but I've stuck with this brand, and same model for the past 3 pairs - they seem made for me and give you the feeling you could walk forever in them - if I had the cardio strength to run too probably. I have tried others - hubby favors Asics - but I always come back to these. When I can afford it I will get properly annalysed etc. but thankfully knees are doing ok so far.
shandyclover I wouldn't worry about not running at least your trying, maybe when you feel ready you could try a gentle jog/run,
My OH runs 3times a week for at least 40mins and doesn't even break into a sweat.
Thanks evian - I will, I want to push myself but the fastest way I fall off the wagon is when I do too much and end up hating it - all a matter of balance I suppose.
Doesn't it just wind you up how superfit hubbys seem to stay that way with so little effort? ...then again I'm thanking my lucky stars he's fit and active and not a beerbelly prone on the couch!
Thanks everyone for welcoming me into your little community - feels great to be supported! No buying unnecessary toiletries 2014. Epiphany on 4/4/14 - went into shop to buy 2 items, walked out with 17!0 -

I can only reiterate - have the shoes fitted properly. I have got them last week and they are brilliant. The analysis showed that I pronate a lot and the shows fixed it. I have tried 7 or 8 pairs, of different brands and chose Nike Structure. I have tried couple of Nike shoes and I have to say that even within the brand the model can feel completely different.
You don't have to spend fortune on the shoes, but get analysis done and they will tell you what to look for in the shoes. I needed guidance/support shoes, so that my foot stopped rolling so much. And I have to say I do feel the difference.Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0 -

Do you mind me asking which shop you went to for this and what price range the trainers they suggested where in.
My budget would be quite small and would hate to feel embarassed if everything was outside my reach.
ThanksNow proud Mumto3 :j0 -
I went to up and running and ended up paying £80 the first time and £60 the second time. I do think though if you gave them your budget they would do their best to work around you. But I couldn't see how you'd get anything for less than £40. That said I'm no expert
They do last for a long long time though...0 -
Morning all. I did week 3 run 2 this morning and found it fine. So fine I thought I would listen to week 4, another mistake it sounds a huge jump from where I am now. I am glad to hear everyone else runs very slowly it makes me feel better . I look at all the really fit runners when I am out and think "that will be me one day":rotfl:
Drea I hope we are not starting a trend here but my washing machine broke down yesterday with all the washing in:eek:. Still the nice people from Dyson are coming to repair it Monday for free.(As I have had a repair already in the last year.)Very MSE. I was wondering if it would be economical to repair as they do not make them any more.
Have not got time to say hello to everyone today as I have to take my father to hospital . I love reading everybodies stories though, everyone sounds so normal:D
Keep going everybody we can do it:jEnough money to live on so retired early...planning to see where life takes me:D0 -
I'm a pavement runner, and it does have an impact on your joints, but I just try not to overdo it and take breaks and stretch if needed.
There is just something so nice about being out in the fresh air with a bit of (hopefully!) sunshine
Managed to get out again this morning, and not feeling it physically but am drained ... but happy that I managed to get through it. Was a little faster this time as did the same route but got a bit further!shandyclover wrote: »Are you me?? Seriously, height, weight, dodgy knees and superfit hubby are all the same. It's me too! well, the 5'2 part and knees are starting to hurt (coz of pavements i think) ... i'm pushing 85 kg and continually trying to lose it but not too hard!! That's what the running is partly for ... I don't mind so much about the kilos as long as I feel toned and nicely curvy. I tend to start hard and fast and give up 3 weeks into anything
Slow and steady wins the race as they say! Trying again for Sunday run 3.Couch to 5K Running 2009/2010/2011

Well I have been and got my trainers! Bargain at £25 for nike dart vii !! I tried on loads before I chose because I have real problems with the ankle/heels on some. I am only little and unless they are low they dig in when I run.
Sooooo I have decided to start on tuesday morning and prepare with jogging on the wii fit. Going to do 10 mins a night till then I think.
I dont have an ipod, mp3 etc so am just going to time myself and see how I feel.
Can I ask what is probably a silly question but do you all run alone...its the one thing I am not looking forward to tbh and feel a bit silly. I know that shouldnt matter but how do others feel getting started? I will be road running but have the option of using a local track(my old club) if I really cant bring myself to do it!JAN GC- £155.77 out of £200FEB GC £197.31 out of £180:o. MARCH GC - out of £200

I run alone but that's entirely by choice, I do have people I could follow up to run with me if I wanted. I prefer to go at my own pace and think my own thoughts
but I'm a solitary kind of a bod by nature anyway. TBH no one really ever takes any notice of me, except for once a little old man exaggeratedly getting out of my way but he was just being funny
mostly if people notice me at all they just smile. Then again maybe we're just a friendly lot in Belfast
