  • I'm 39 by the way, with the big 40 looming soon and I really want to be up to 5k before it (and down below 11 stone but that's a whole other story!!)

My flatmate has these fancy scales that tell you everything and I seem to have finally worked out how to use them. My BMI is 23.3, my body fat is 28.2% and my body water is 52.4%. Hoped someone here might be able to tell me if that's good or bad? :rotfl:

Just getting ready for my run now... glutten for punishment.

    Good morning,

I've just read through the thread and it's quite inspiring.:T Can i join you?

I do have a few questions though I wondered if you could help

I have entered a 10k race for 1st Aug through work so I HAVE to do it. I ideally need to lose about a stone and I can currently run 2 miles but seem to have a complete block at anything further than that.

So can I jump in on the programme to where I think I am?

And then is there any other recommended podcasts/threads for 5 - 10k after that?

we've got some of those scales, but I can't find the book that has the bandings of the readings in.
However, they sound really good to me :j. Under 25 for BMI is great. I know my readings from the scales and I'm probably about 1/2 - 1 stone over my ideal weight and yours are far better than mine! (not very scientific!!!)

Let us know how you get on.

  • Good morning everybody. Firstly hello to Juno and belfastgirl23 I have been wondering where you were.
Week 6 run 1 done this morning. 5 minutes, 8 minutes and then 5 minutes again. I was feeling confident, after all I ran 20 minutes on Friday! Run 1. I knew I was running a bit too fast but there were a couple of fit looking runners with all the gear so I didn't want to look lame...smiled and waved as I went past. Run 1 done no problems. Into the 8 minute run I knew I was dying and my heart monitor was bleeping madly to say my heart rate was off the scale:eek: The podcast said week 1 and I thought great I can stop but no I was just half way through. I turned the corner and there was one of the fit looking runners walking...yeah:D...and then she started running again...so I managed to carry on, weirdly inspired by this. I have rearranged my run so that the last bit is downhill so run three was fine. I did it:j I think on Tuesday I will remember to keep it slow.
Drea I have those scales. BMI under 25 is good. Water above 50% is good I can't remember where the body fat should be so I will look for the instructions later for you. All I can say is my body fat and BMI are higher than that. I think I need to loose about a stone and a half. I am still putting weight on even though I am doing more exercise. Will definitely have to check it out at the Doc's being of a "certain age "and all that.
banwa of course you can join us though you sound far too fit to post on here. Most of us are struggling to run for a couple of minutes or more. There are other runners around who do much more it might be better to link up with them. I don't know about the podcasts but ours are from coolrunning.com so you could look on there.
Looking forward to hearing how everyone else has got on.:)
Enough money to live on so retired early...planning to see where life takes me:D

Well, the run didn't beat me this time :D in fact I quite enjoyed it, it's going to get hot here today so I'm glad I went in the morning, the sun is starting to get strong now.

I should be going onto week 3 really (just did my 4th run of week 2 ) but I just don't think I'm ready for it... not that I've looked to see what it is :rotfl:

banwa - there was someone a few pages back who was following a slightly different running programme (similar idea) but they said there was an option for 5k to 10k too. Maybe you could have a look? :)

It wasn't as bad as it seemed - I did it yesterday. Let out a very loud 'woohoo' when I'd done the first one :o

Do you know, I've made an assumption that we are all 'ladies' on this thread - are there any men???
