think I'm gonna have to try the next 25 minuter on the treadmill tomorrow if this weather keeps up. Wish me luck! Guess it's about the length of an episode of Everybody Loves Raymond, maybe I can manage that. Believe me Drea i can totally see where you're coming from, hard enough to get yourself out the door without getting drowned into the bargain

Welcome Katieboo, believe me you're not the only unfit and overweight one :) and well done Bertiebops - you might ache but I bet you have a feeling of satisfaction

And well done Teachergirl, can't believe you had sun in Essex today, it's been pelting down for 2 days straight here.

And mumto2 proper trainers will def sort you out, see if you can find a specialist running shop. i say yet again conscious that I have still not managed to buy a new pair :o

edited to say might have found you one http://www.therunningshop.org.uk/
don't feel awkward about going, people who work in specialist shops love running and really want to encourage others to do it, even if they have never run the length of themselves before!

Hi katyboo, I had a read at your blog, well done on deciding to change things :)

I've been looking at treadmills and they are just far too expensive :( I guess the sports centres probably have a way to pay per session for when the weather is horrible but I'm scared of going there where I'll be bright red, out of breath AND won't know how to work the treadmill! There are manual ones that I could buy but I'm guessing they would be pretty useless for a running/walking programme like this?

Have just ordered a couple pairs of joggers from sportsdirect for £3 each :)

Morning idiophreak. I did post you a message on the old thread to tell you where we were.:D
My knees hurt a bit this morning. I think I too might have to get some real running shoes. I haven't had any problems until now. Sorry to be a pain but does anyone know where I can get any in Essex? or I guess in the holidays I could go to London if that would be better. When people talk about having thier running style analysed does it matter if you are still on the running really slowly ,just a bit faster than walking stage? I might find it just a tad embarrassing :o
Weather is very grim today even in sunny Essex. I guess there will not be many of us outdoor runners going out. Anyone replacing it with anything indoors?
Enough money to live on so retired early...planning to see where life takes me:D

So, I did my run last night. I was going to repeat Week 5 Run 1, but then when I started running and was approaching 5 min mark, I realised, that I am feeling ok and I could just keep going. So, I kept going for the 8 minutes. I did the Run 2 of Week 5 in the end!!!!

It was harder to do the second run, but never the less, I did it. I will attempt the 20 min run next time I get to the gym (tomorrow or Friday morning).

    Hey

Well I'm back - Week 1 run 1 done. It was ok actually, not easy, but not unbearably hard either. I ran a bit faster this time around, and I downloaded the running into shape podcast which made it easier. I deliberately didn't keep track of the time so that I wasn't clock watching and it went ok. I was thinking I might be able to skip some sessions but I think I will have to do it properly, 3 sessions a week, repeating until it gets ok, and then move on. Really proud of myself for getting through it as I was at aerobics on Monday night and was tired last night so was thinking of not going, but I made it. Next session thursday I think, and then Friday afternoon maybe as it's going to be a heavy weekend :p:beer:

Glad to see some more newbies joining, glad I'm not the only one at week one now.

Not very pleased. Snow today and yesterdays rain/wind was impossible :(

When I can finally get back out I'll be back at Week 1 - Run 1 I guess :(

    Hi all :)

Well, I got my Week 2 Run 2 done this morning. And even though the weather was complete carp - it has its benefits. There was hardly anyone else at the park, and running with the wind and rain in your face is really quite exhilarating!! I know.....I'm crazy. But it really wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Only downside is that it was muddy and my jogging bottoms are very dirty :o

Bertiebots - Congrats on your first run :j Wishing you every success for the others.

Goppers - Do the 25 min run! You know you ant to. If you have to have a break in the middle then so be it. But you don't know until you try!

    Ginvzt - 8 min :j Congrats :).

Drea - You don't want a treadmill - def not a manual one! Get out in the lovely fresh air - its much cheaper lol!

BelfastGirl - Good luck for the next 25min run you fit lady you :T

Mumto2 - Hope you got out today. And that you found a decent sports shop. Ive noticed that Sports Direct have a He Runs She Runs section now - is that in all stores? Might be worth a nose?

Katyboo123 - Well done on signing up for Race for Life. Thats great motivation and I wish you every success :)

Teachergirl - Have you tried the big Decathalon store at Lakeside? :T for the washing machine man. Our dishwasher broke down last week :( Keep prodding DH that we really need to look for another as I'm fed up if washing up :o Lazy?? Me??

Idiophreak - What week are you on? I bet you're advanced!

TreenyBash - :T for the first run. Ive just progressed onto week 2 and am not breaking down as much as I thought I would!

Wow, mammoth post from me, sorry! Hope everyone is keeping well, and remember to enjoy it!! :D:o:p:D

Thanks everyone for the encouragement! :D
I am due to do week 1, run #2 tomorrow but am a bit worried because my hips are very stiff!
I thought it would be my legs that would cause me trouble but they are fine!. I have been walking round town this morning and they are ok when I am moving... but when I stop and have to get going again they are quite painful.:(
I am not sure if its a good idea to run or not but dont want to miss a day.... so I might be doing a brisk walk instead . Its quite frustrating!
I am going to try a soak in the bath tonight and see if that helps.
