maybe i was lucky, or i should think i was lucky to met my mortgage adviser.
aplication filled in evening and 2 days latter mortgage offer on my door from abbey.

2 days further i did see on my online check in at abbey website that valuation was completed.
As much as i was aware , the mortgage advicser had too many insider friends at the mortgage centre;)
So, i cant fault but only say- Good bless abbey;)

    agreed, it sounds dire.

    But, who's the best.

Easy to criticise, lets praise some banks or are they all much of a muchness, just some worse and others not so bad?

The least bother so far for me have been Nationwide, Leeds BS, Coventry BS, ITL, TMW and Principality.

I'm more than happy to compliment good lenders abd regularly do so, the thread was about Santander, hence my point about them being chronic.

This isn't about investment in systems or process it's about the quality of staff and management.

Santander are still pricing very, very competetively yet can't service the applications they get...hence the 7 to 10 days to look at post. Most others are doing this within 48 hours.

2 examples, weekly paid client who's firm shuts over the holidays for 2 weeks so he gets 3 weeks in one go. Abbey ask for missing weeks, I explain what has happened which is emailed to UW who wait 10 days to look at it (so we're at 20 days now). They don't understand so ask again....I explained this to them 4 times!! That is 50 days in total.

Property down valued by 30%, Abbey won't appeal the valuation as they paid for it (explain that one if you will!!). Obvious to me that a mistake has been made, move the app to another lender and the valuation comes in at £5k more than we had estimated!

The staff genuinely have no interest in TCF, brokers have no access to underwriters or managers. I have not placed a case with Abbey in the last year that I have not had to complain about....last year I spent 2 full days of my family holiday trying to sort out a cosk up they made.

Santander are the only lender I have these issues with. Praise is due to all of those who doe their job well and those who try but don't have the resources or support to do so...unfortunately I don't experience either of these with Santander.

Have an Abbey Mortgage for 14 years now, never a hassle, even when changing from mis-sold endownment to repayment:T

Thinking of moving home so called to see them last week and everything sorted in half an hour:T Extra lending not a problem either:T

I am a long time Abbey Customer (Current Acc, Savings and Mortgage) so I suppose this gives me a lot of plus points, but as a whole I am very satisfied with the service I get from them:)
I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:

Maybe it's the intermediary arm of the bank that doesn't care then (god I sound paranoid!!).

Rates are coming down again tonight with Abbey for Intermediaries which will help with the backlogs no doubt.

Stevey, did you go through a full application that was scored, submitted and underwritten or did you ring up and run through what you were looking to do? The former is where the problems start. And I agree with you on the rest of their offering, very good. I bank personally with them and hold my business accounts with them too. I have placed quite a bit of commercial business with them over the years also though that is going the same way as the mortgages now.

Matt, if they are completely happy with the file at outset they usually instruct the valuation straight away. If they are wanting to fully underwrite the case then you will probably wait I feel. Are you going direct or through a broker?

its going through an advisor direct to abbey, so they are probably underwriting it then surveying the property?

it sounds that way Matt, keep the pressure on them though.

Honestly I'm not trying to put a downer on this for you mate, I think probably a new thread for good and bad Abbey experiences might be a better idea than hijacking yours.

Its fine mate, I'd rather honest comments of previosu experiances with them, They just dont seem to realise that there messing with people's lives!

On another note, just viewed my credit report again (credit expert), they searched it twice on the 18th March, (shown in searches shown to other lenders)

Also on the part which is not shown to other lenders they have viewed it 16 times!?

    Whats that all about!?
