When my husband were starting to look at buying our first house I popped into an abbey branch to get an idea of the rates and products available. I ended up being pushed into a consultation with an adviser that I didn't even want, who proceeded to tell me that mortgages were very complicated and so difficult to understand that I should come back with my husband on a another day! I know I'm blonde but really! He happens to be hopeless with figures! I won't be going to then for a remortgage!

Yes we've tried Abbeys affordability calculator and even a low scoring applicant would potentially be able to borrow £20K more than we were asking for. It does not make sense whatsoever.

Spoke to Abbey today to see if they survey had been scheduled and apparently it was done on Friday! The mortgage offer went out Friday/Monday morning and should be at home waiting for me when I get in! Am very impressed at the speed - was a bit nervous when we got off to such a slow start!!
