Victory - are your numbers stabalising?

    .

During the day you could say yes relatively stable but I have to do them every 2 hours and at night they go from normal when I have put the injection on to 21/19/15 and so I wake up high, rather than lower the night time I reckon increase but they are insistant I reduce.
Sports massage might also sort it out for you but maybe speaking to a GP first might be a good idea but I don't know how your system work's in the foreign lands :)

Victory - how was your day at work and how are those veggies coming along?

Work was fine, the boss and supervisor were not there so the atmosphere is relaxed, happy and we just get on with the work, bliss, the veggies on the windowsill are slowly thriving and the garden ones have had a heavy shower on them so that should do them good, we bought a water pump for the water butt so that I can water the back garden rather than one watering can at a time, I am all for making my life easier and have insisted OH allows me to make purchases that do that, for the front garden I have bought an hozelock auto reel hose, can't do it anymore, yanking the hose, trying to reel it back up again with hands that don't even go straight anymore, they are always curled up especially the left one and I am not carrying, struggling, pulling, lifting anymore if there is a device out there that makes watering the garden, or cutting, etc easier:D

Car went in for its MOT yesterday, failed, £489 to get it fixed:eek: the car is not worth more than £600:eek: Oh does not know what to do, dump and re buy or fix it himself with the parts and put it back in for it's MOT, that was one thing we did not expect:eek:

Missy - I know you are the expert...... what would you recommend reducing your BMR by to have a steady weight loss. I have read the websites but anything from 1200 to 500 is a little too vague for me. I wonder of you know something a little more exact :A

Not by any means an expert but it's recommended not to reduce your daily calorie intake by more than 15% of maintenance in order to lose weight. So take your calculated BMR and use the activity level multiplier to get your theoretical daily calorie needs, then reduce this number by up to 15% as a starting point.

If you're not losing, or if you're losing too fast, then you can tweak this as you go along because as we all know, everyone's different and your 'real' BMR may be quite different to the calculated one :). Obviously as you lose weight, you'll need to keep recalculating the numbers too because your BMR will be reducing slightly as you become lighter.

Hope this makes sense! If you want any help calculating just let me know!

    Morning all,
Thank you for all the kind thoughts and good wishes, I am humbled by all the concern. Thankfully things look to be improving, for now, but it's early days yet. The reason for me not being A1 is that my 2nd eldest son, 16ys, walked out on Sunday evening and refused to come back. There was no argument, we have a fairly calm house tbh, and it was a complete curve ball. Any other parent here can imagine how traumatic that may be. I only vaguely knew where he was (area of town), at a friend's house with the parents blessing (!!!!!!?!), but I didn't know any contact details. He turned up to school on Monday looking very rough, and complaining of feeling ill, but refused to have me collect him early. He didn't attend school again, and by yesterday I was frantic with worry. He starts his GCSE's in 2 week's time, and is a bright boy at a high achieving grammar. Fortunately I have forged a great relationship with his head of year, and she and I stayed in contact through the week, and as I had spoken to the NSPCC helpline to find out what options I may have, she did some investigative work, found out how to contact the parents my son was with, and made them aware that they could face a whole gambit of problems (police & social services), and were currently facing being reported for allowing truanting (the mother works in a school btw). Thankfully she panicked, and decided she didn't want my son there anymore, and promptly returned home, took him for a haircut (?), and then brought him home. The reason for him walking out.... apparently he wants an extended curfew and to be allowed to do sleepovers! We'd had to curtail these due to exteme behaviour, and concerns for his welfare at previous ones. However, I do think he was positively 'groomed', encouraged and wound-up by the friend he went to live with, who seems to be particularly frustrated by my OH and I having curfew times, and basically parenting my son. A case of him not wanting his friend to go home, because he still wants to play! It seems he's lied to his parents about my son living in an atrocious home, he's unloved, uncared for, and had nowhere to live. Oh, and the friend, despite having his GCSE's coming up too, is allowed to not attend school because 'it's not worth it, I'm not going to pass'! The mother, who I spoke to, seemed more concerned that her family was now being seen by 'people' in a bad light, and that they weren't a good family! I have to say I'd struggle to understand how another parent could take in a child, and not even attempt to contact either the parents of the child, or the school they attend, if only to reassure them that he was fine, and being cared for. No, they had him move in, gave him his own laptop, and let him pierce his lip! They're very lucky that I am a fairly calm, reasonable, down to earth person, who doesn't shout and scream like a banshee, because another person would have reacted very differently.
Urgh, parenting is truly the hardest job you can ever do, official! I'd have Gordon Brown's job anyday, it looks like a walk in the park.

Victory - I hope you start feeling better soon. A blessing perhaps you don't have to have the bbq now, altho' nice weather would have been good.

Eric - I'm sorry you're having a tough time. Are you struggling with your gym work, or are you having other physical problems? Whatever it is, I hope you get through it. The journey may be rough, but the destination should make it worthwhile. Stay strong.

linz - welcome back. Stick around and that 9lb will go.

    de1amo
    - thank you for making me laugh. I have such a great visual of you (dressed in Saturday Night Fever white suit, naturally) attempting to do the splits... and failing! :rotfl:

  • :eek:Sary! I hope this other parent is now fully aware of her sons lies and deceit etc:mad: As if parenting wasn't hard enough without collusion of liberal parents thinking they know best.
I'm so sorry this has been going on. I hope you can get him through his GSCE's for starters.
And should you be in a nono second of doubt, I can assure you that my nephews (now early 20's) were brought up with the same strong parenting, plus no telly's ever in their rooms. In fact no girls in their rooms unless the door was kept open. 16 yr old still need parenting was their strong view and priveledges had to be earned by their demonstrating responsibility and good choice making skills.

AllIwant - will PM you laters:D

I’m female, a stone over weight and have lost and gained the same 2-4 pounds a hundred times over since turning 40.

I diet for 3-4 days then eat extra the next day to cancel out any progress.

You seem such a positive, supportive bunch – can I join please. I need a “public” place make me accountable for my food intake and weight.

What day is weight in please and thanks for reading!

    Welcome to the board! :hello:
I am the same, I try to eat well for a few days then all my hard work is demolished in one day of weakness. I really need to get past that!

De1amo - I am actually trying to teach myself the splits...stretching my legs everyday, any tips for me there? Hope you get ur hamstring sorted, have you decided where you're going to go? :)

Missy - I calculated my daily calorie requirements using my RMR (weight in pounds x 10) then adding on 20% for daily activity (general) then also adding on requirement for daily exercise (which I have calculated at 600) from this I got 2124cals...which I have then deducted 500 to give me 1624 per day (over 7 days, 500cals a day equals 3500, which is equivalent to 1lb of stored body fat) have I done this right, as I am going to try and stick to this figure, but if I aim for around 1500-1600 cals a day, I should be ok...I'm hoping? If I use BRM I get a higher figure...more like 1800cals...

I do think to be completely accurate I should get myself a heart rate monitor, any tips where I can buy a good one?

I have been considering myself to be eating reasonably healthy these past few weeks and have been going up and down within a few pounds, so not a great deal happening. Then when I did this calculation, I have discovered I have most likely been undereating!!!

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Also, do you all calorie count every single thing that passes your lips...this is what I am planning on doing starting tomorrow, and I am not optimistic! I think it's going to be hard :(

    Hey Pud_ding,

Welcome to our great thread. You'll find bunches of support, advice, encouragement or just a place to share your thoughts.

You can weigh-in any day you prefer, but all the weekly results are posted up by our lovely chart compiler fredsnail, very late on a Wednesday evening. If you can post your result of either +lb -lb or STS (stay the same) in nice big bold letters so it makes it easier for her to spot them. Contributors here weigh in on a variety of days, especially if they attend a club such as weight watchers, slimming world, etc.

I think we all recognise the same lbs having been lost/gained time and time again. To get the best out of this supportive thread we find the more often and regularly we contribute, the more useful it is. I find, as you said, that using the thread makes me accountable not only to myself, but to the Chart. No one here will judge you, that's not for us to do. We all have our different journey, some are longer than others, but we all seem to want to arrive at a similar place.

There will be others to come along and offer you their pearls of wisdom, but I wonder, if you have a pattern of eating more after 3-4 days, if you are cutting back too much initially, looking for a quick-fix, and if that's the case, you're doomed to fail time & time again. How about making subtle changes, making healthier options, but ensuring you're eating enough to feel satisfied, and not going hungry. Try to introduce some extra activity or exercise. Then aim to get past the 4 day limit, and take each day at a time, and aim to do one more. Don't expect to lose half a stone in the first couple of weeks, as that's not realistic, or healthy for the average person.

Are you looking to follow a particular plan, count calories, fat, etc? I try to count calories, but keep the fat/sugar contents low too. They're my weakness, so avoiding them seems to work best, as they just trigger cravings for more. I like to use foodfocus.com, which is free, as a way of logging my intake each day, and it gives you a good way of planning the food you're eating. Most long-term losers will tell you that meal planning is their saving grace. Getting hungry, and arriving at a mealtime with no idea of what to have can have you reaching for the wrong things, just to fill up.

linz - many contributors here swear by using a food log, either a notebook, diary, or an online tool. I like foodfocus.com because it's free, uses UK brands and has most supermarket own brands too, and I can create recipes on it and use my homemade meals broken down into portion sizes or 100g, etc., it also has a 'dashboard' where you can log in your exercise for the day, and it gives a nice graphic to show the food intake/energy consumed, daily rate. If you have an iphone I know they have apps to do this too. Eric uses a fancy programme I know, but he's far more geeky than me!

Missy or Eric will no doubt advise you later about the BMR. Missy has mentioned before about undereating being the thing that she discovered that stopped her losing, and by upping her food intake, and tweaking it constantly she can lose/maintain. See how you go with your window of 1500/1600, and adjust it as you go along each week perhaps?
