I have this problem too - if I eat the number of calories advised for me to lose weight, I stay the same. I only lose weight if I reduce the advisory figure by another 200 calories. Do you have any theories as to why this is the case for you?

    LL

it could be that your not as active as you think or more likely you have a lower than avg amount of muscle which means your metabolism is lower, or it could be you have a reduced metabolism which could be natural some peoples can be more efficient than avg

its not an exact science because we are all different and it does require a bit of tweaking based on what you see happening

that's brilliant as it confirms my theory

there's a huge amount of research going into lower carb diets at the moment and it certainly does seam to be better to eat good amounts of healthy oils and fats but nobody seams to be looking at my theory on how important the whole addictive food cycle is on breaking dieters morale and the role it plays in Yo-Yo dieting.

    :p

i thought she had come up with this weird food combination thing

i was looking purely at what foods cause hormone release from the pleasure centre of the brain

Yes she does but she also advocates cutting processed foods out of your diet altogether because of their addictive qualities.

Since being on Harcombe and sticking as much as possible to foods as nature intended I've noticed that if I do ever eat anything processed then I eat much more than usual, but having a simple meal of unprocessed foods in the right combination then I feel fuller, quicker and for longer. For instance if I want chocolate I stick to in 70%+ cocao solids varieties and a couple of squares will be enough; someone gave me a bar of Bournville recently which is about 50% dark chocolate and I ate the whole bar without even realising it! Which proves to me that the makers must add stuff that makes you crave more of it.

Glad it's not just me Lois! I'm thinking that towards the end of my weight loss and when I first started maintaining, I probably didn't do myself any favours by keeping my intake so low (circa 1200/day) for several months. I'm now nervous about dropping my calorie intake too much whenever I have a couple of kg to lose (such as now), because I tend to think it messes me up longer term. What about yourself?

My theory is that I've spent my whole life yo-yo dieting and the result has been to convince my body that it exists mainly in famine conditions with the occasional period of plenty when I decide to give up on dieting and accept the way I am! In other words, trying to lose weight has reduced my metabolism over the years.

For that reason I'm very interested in the ideas you've both given for increasing metabolism and I'm going to give them a try.

    Thanks,

    LL :)

p.s. I multi-quoted for the first time, but I'm not sure how I did it!

Just back form Sussex and have been catching up ....

Sorry to hear your news, Hezza. Your MIL sounds like a very special person. You'll have wonderful memories of her that will stay with you forever.

Fellpony - I'm so pleased that you now have better news about your little DD. Worrying about your child just takes precedence over everything in my experience.

I can now tell you that BB is a real person ... and she's even nicer in real life than on t'internet.

Victory - 80% twice - not only brilliant but consistently brilliant!

Well done Eric! Whatever you're doing it's working a treat.

Keep up vix:D - we posted last week we would be meeting as granny is on hols in sussex this week. She and Mr Granny spent the day in Brighton on Wednesday so Granny and I met for afternoon tea while he went off looking at architecture and stuff.
We did toast you with our vast vats of tea though.

Are you cooking for yourselves still at Matt's parents?

You avoided question two bb :p Did you go to donnatellos!!? Im so going back there soon, im having withdrawl!

Im going to my first wedding fair tomorrow at detling! Kinda excited but now work is just rubbish so the excitement has gone.

Oh god, my friend used to work at woolworths, the reason why there was hardly anything in woolworths at cheap prices is because the staff are were pinching it all. One bloke took 3 xbox 360's, an assistant manager took £600 out of the till! Shocking, or maybe not actually

We met last wednesday, at 3pm at a coffee & bun place in the North Laine. Not at Donnatelo's. Any further questions m'lud?:D
Have fun at the wedding fair. Never been to one myself. I'd probably run screaming form the place after 5 mins. What is rubbish about work?

Just back form a party celebrating a very inspirational friends 70th birthday. We left her dancing away to wild things...
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once
