    hello all
I'm thinking of buying some scales that also show % fat etc as I think this might be quite motivating.
Can anyone recommend a pair based on ones they own?

Hi BB, I like my weight watchers ones. They weren't bought specifically because of the brand but because they were the most reasonably priced in the supermarket i went to ;).

You enter age, height and fitness level (mines a 1...) and then each time you select your number (can save multiple peoples details) and step on it gives your weight, BMI, body fat % and also water percentage which i guess is to explain some of those changes in weight. Think they were about £15 but it was over a year ago so im not completely sure.

Talking of weight, I jumped on for a sneaky peak on friday night and weighed 6lbs more than i did at weigh in! Fortunately thats gone now but my god, that will teach me. The reason for it however is that the day before I absolutely killed myself doing an hour and 20 minutes kick boxing/abs and thighs dvd. My god it was tough.

Unfortunately a couple of the twisty knee exercises hurt straight away so i sensible edited them to miss out the twists but didnt think to not do the brilliant "tone up those bingo wings" that i so truly need to do and the next day my wrists were completely too weak to carry my own handbag. Slightly better now and unfortunately I guess this explains my doctors "we dont know how your conditions will change or new ones occur so to be on the safe side I should say no exercise bar walking and swimming".

However, my consultant also agreed that seeing as I can dislocate just opening a jar and at 21 I dont want to live life in cotton wool its just a case of trial and error and deciding myself what i can and cant do. Going to try to do the dvd again today but have a lot of ebay items ending with questions etc so may not get all 5 sections done...tho thats probably smart and I should work up to it but i wanna see results damn it! I have been sensible enough just to do walking and toning since thursday so going full throttle 2/3 times a week is allowed!

Food wise is a bit mixed at the moment. No money means im planning more and using left overs better but doesnt always mean completely healthiest option. Today will be cooked chicken wings that have been sitting in the freezer with the title "eeek unhealthy" hovering above them, but i will try to only eat the meat. Having some mini roasties (so they cook quicker and i feel like im getting more :p) and roasted veg with it. Will then cook extra veg and potato and do a bubble and squeak type thing either for lunch or dinner tomorrow depending on the amount left. Then a tiny bit of saved chicken and roasted veg cous cous for another meal. Basically trying to buy in as little food as possible and would rather spend money on fruit and veg than more meat so trying to be economical with whats in.

    Have a good one all!
  • Hi everyone

I have not had a great couple of days :(

Was going away for the weekend to another VW show but 20 miles from home the damn van broke down and according to my OH's language and body language it looks pretty terminal and a new engine is needed

So after getting delivered home by the recovery truck OH decided we were still going to go so we had to find tent and then unpack and repack everything into daily driver. So all my wonderful food plans went out the window due to no fridge and other tent restraints. So I have eaten crap for 2 days and had little sleep ( I now remember why we got a campervan in the 1st place)
So I feel totally drained, have a tummy making horrible noises and also got sunburnt yesterday which is still throbbing

Also I feel really weird emotionally, almost empty which I cannot explain at the moment and am not liking. I just don't know what to do with myself which I am not used to coping with. I think it is the disappointment of the weekend, I had great hopes of it being great but not sure. I even couldn't be bothered to go watch the football last night.(not that I missed much by the sound of it!) I know I am being silly and some sleep will make me feel better but I am a little worried ........

Eric - I'm glad your treadmill is fixed

Brighton Belle - I have the Salter Mi Body ones and I love them. They have a USB stick that you can download your information on and then save it on your PC so see how you are doing. They were a little on the costly side but my Mum brought them for me for my birthday.
http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/8327857/Trail/searchtext%3ESCALES+BATHROOM.htm I also got them when on special offer. Also am loving your homemade easiyo yoghurt it taste's amazing.

bb: i shall reply back to you on fb, i still want a clock!

bettyb: your percentage is probably different to mine, im very pear shaped and all my fat is on the lower half generally. Goal wise im not really aiming for a figure, or even to actually lose weight. I know that sounds weird but im actually enjoying just exercising for the first time in my life. Im going with a group of girls and we all change machines at the gym so we all get to chat to each other as we go around and then if we do a class were all there for each other, its great and keeps the motivation up. I think weve all hit an age now where the weight has crept on slowly since our teenage years and were all like arggh gross! I'd love to weigh 9 stone somthing though!! One thing im finding tricky atm is eating food to exercise with and drinking enough. Been feeling quite ill and that i need to go to bed straight after i exercise lately so i need to sort that out. Im rambling on here... ha

I was at the boot fair today and the man was selling off as he put it 'his fat clothes' I asked him about his weight loss and he said he has lost 4 1/2 stone by just cutting out junk, being more active, portion control and said he found it easy, was never hungry and loves his new look, amazing what you can do with a little determination:D

BB - I got my scales in a sale at John Lewis about 3 years ago. I paid about £40 even then, but they were about half price. These are almost identical to mine, albeit slightly different design: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tanita-BC532-Composition-Bathroom-Scales/dp/B0002X98DK/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=drugstore&qid=1276458059&sr=8-5 they memorise up to 4 different people, and have a guest mode.

Vix - Why not try to eat a meal about an hour before you got to exercise? You shouldn't feel bad after exercising, in fact I'd say you should feel more invigorated, and energised. It could well be that you don't have the reserves in your body before exercising. It's a bit like not putting petrol in your car, before going on the motorway and going for a blast in the fast lane. You won't get far. If you struggle to fit time in for a meal, then how about eating more snacks on the day you intend to go (assuming you go after work), and eating an energy bar or even something like some flapjack before you go. Anything to give you a boost of calories, and with carbs in it. Make sure you take a bottle of water around with you at the gym (I used to refill mine a couple of times during a workout to replace the fluids I was losing in there). If you dehydrate you're going to feel yukky.

alliwant - give yourself a couple of days to get over the disappointment of the weekend, and then see how you are. Hopefully you'll feel better after some decent sleep. Life, I tend to think, never really goes according to plan, but sometimes that's when the fun is to be had!

Back on topic(ish), I had one of those M&S fuller for longer meals, and it was pretty nice.

omron make commercial medical gear and also pretty good prosumer stuff

these ones on amazon (i have these) are 50% off

There far more accurate than the ones where you just stand on since the current is passed through the feet to the hands and travels through most of the body, its a tiny tiny current, you can not tell :)

They are pricey, but I got mine reduced at £2 per meal, so I got one for me and my OH. It said not to freeze it, but I did (because I didn't read the label beforehand), but it cooked from frozen just fine. We had the pasta with beef ragu, with a side salad, and it was very nice. Plenty enough for me, and lots of meat, which is a refreshing change in a 'ping' meal. I don't do convenience food often, but usually keep a couple of the Birds Eye Steam Fresh chicken meals in the freezer that I get in Farmfoods for £1.50 each. Ideal if we're tight for time, but want a healthy meal.

thanks everyone for the scales info - all very helpful. I'm thinking it over. I think I am getting ot the point when it isn't just about weight is it , it is about internal fat levels etc that count towards health. I have got credits towarda an argos purchase care of my cashback credit crad so was thinking of using that so i am not actually spending any 'money'.

I am also considering buying a reclining chair for my, at times, 90 year old body as getting out the sofa is increasing difficult and being in it isn't doing me any favours either. Been looking at 'Str3ssless' chairs which are very very expensive, but designed for good posture etc. Now scouring the net for something as good but for much less, lol. Looking on fleabay too but the chair seat has to be a maximum depth of about 50cm to fit my frame and often they are much deeper than this.
I feel a bit sad at the thought of getting rid of having a sofa though -there is something cosy about having one. But since my OH's back started troubling him, he doesn't sit on it anymore.

all iwant - glad you are enjoying the yoghurt:D

Sary - really interesting reading about 'young folk today' as I have very little contact with any, though everything you say i the general impression I get. If it is any consolation, two of my nephews were more like you describe at your boys ages and now in their 20's have def 'grown up' and are working hard now they have found what they want to do and know they have to work for what they want. Big turn around. My colleague is currently going through exacty what you describe with her 17yr old - that sense of entitlement.

dmv - I admire your positive attitude to not wanting to wrap yourself in cotton wool. I think you will know your boundaries when you push too hard but it is better to still want to push a bit to find them:T.

Eric - well done on still nearly meeting your weight loss targets. And 50kg lost so far :T:T:T.

Vix - great advice from sary re food. And hear ya 'bout the clock:D Got my thinking cap on.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once
