retiredlady wrote: »Thanks for the advice Eric, it all sounds good except I don't count calories! I go to Slimming World where the only foods I have to limit are the fats including dairy (but not eggs) and the breads and cereals. I follow the Extra Easy plan which means I would never have more than 1 ounce of cheese a day and that would only be if I hadn't had any milk. Bread is almost never eaten and if I have cereal it would be once a day and only 1 ounce! Meat, fish, fruit, vegetables, rice, pasta and potatoes are free goods and can be eaten in unlimited amounts. I have lost 6 stone on this diet so far but when I fall off the wagon it is a pretty big drop:o
Again thanks for caring:A

Im not going to bore victory by going into the laws of thermodynamics etc
It certainly sounds like you have a system there works great for you, but something is defiantly not adding up, to gain 2lbs you have to eat 7000 cals more than you need which is a lot.
I would suspect in this case its more likely to be a weighing issue since you obviously know the SW system well and how to follow it.
I would be careful about this, "Meat, fish, fruit, vegetables, rice, pasta and potatoes are free goods and can be eaten in unlimited amounts". I could easily eat 4000+ cals a day just on these items which would guarantee a huge weight gain each week.
Counting cals was mearly a suggestion since its the only way to be sure, its bloody inconvenient thou which is why systems like WW, SW etc are easier to stick too.0 -
Hi Marion
I wonder if it is about portion sizes. I know SW has 'free food' but they still encourage you to stop eating when full, and be portion aware.
It might be worth spending a week dishing up your usual food and then take off just a little of your plate and see if you are still pleasantly full?
Vix - I get what you are saying about Harcombe (and I am not doing it myself) but it is basically following the principle of food combining that has been around for decades - since the 1920's maybe or more I think and I did food combining in the eighties (and lost weight) for health reason. So it isn't so much faddy but is based on priciples of 'foods that fight' in your gut. My reason for not going back to food combining is that I need to eat little and often and could leave the 4 hr gap between meals basedon carbs or protein.
Eric - if you hav a bad cold, you should generally ease up on exercise in order to recover well. Well done on passing another milestone:TI try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0 -

I will
been 3 days with none so far, I am a lot better today, will see how I am in the morning, if still a bit flaky ill pass again0 -
Marion it's extremely unlikely that the 2lb is a body fat gain. You know what you're doing on SW (understatement!), and if it was just one meal over then at the very worst I wouldn't think it'd be more than a third of a lb. I know how demotivating it is when that happens, but have faith that you probably weighed at the peak of a 'normal fluctuation' and you'll see the results of your efforts next time, or if you take the month as a whole rather than any single week
.
Ooh I couldn't give up the spag bol either - it's my absolute fave meal!!!0 -
I dont mean to be a bit of a downer on the haircomb diet but isnt it just another faddy diet like the atkins and everyother stupidly named diet there is? I guess what im learning as i get older is to not start anything bad!! Don't smoke and don't keep eating a whole box of chocolate fingers while crying to armaggedon like i did last night!Brighton_belle wrote: »Vix - I get what you are saying about Harcombe (and I am not doing it myself) but it is basically following the principle of food combining that has been around for decades - since the 1920's maybe or more I think and I did food combining in the eighties (and lost weight) for health reason. Aye my mum is doing food combining at the moment, and me and H2B are doing Harcombe and it fits really well together. The thing that made me try this when I have never done any diet before, just counted calories and watched what I eat, is that the only things that are completely off the table are sugars and addatives/preservaties/processed gunk. None of these things have any nutritional benefit anyway.
The reason I swapped from counting calories to Harcombe is exactly the reason you just stated - the accidentally eating a whole box of chocolate fingers. I did that kind of thing before, meaning I always maintained my weight. I lost a stone and a half last year, but I would still like to loose at least another stone before my wedding. Because it's a totally forbidden fruit on Harcombe I don't think 'oh well, just one treat', I just don't do it and I actually find myself reaching for fruit instead because after a sugar detox everything seems to taste a lot better naturally!
I finished phase 1 on Friday, and my last official weigh in was last Wednesday. Since then though my weight has been absolutely solid as a rock, having seen a few Harcombe diet forums I'm yet to see a follower whose goal weight is a less than a size 12. As I am starting at size 10 and want to get to an 8, I do wonder if I actually will loose at all, or if there is just a critical line I can't go beyond anymore. Maybe I'm just being unrealistic trying to get my 19/20 year old body back at 25.
As it doesn't restrict any foods Harcombe makes sense to me from a nutritional perspective, although I don't buy into a lot of the underlying conditions etc. What it has done for me is forced me to vary my diet more, explore new foods, and be a lot more aware of what is on my plate. Even if I don't loose any more weight I won't go back to all that processed crap (and I thought I ate healthily, didn't realise I ate so much sugar without realising, and so many addatives and preservatives) and I've gotten my 5 a day every day (in fact I've been on 7-10 a day every day) and that can only be good for my insides, even if in the end it doesn't help me loose the last 4" off my waist.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

Yes, I think at 25 you are now a woman, so you will have more natural healthy fat deposits for child bearing etc. 18/19yrs is often the tail end of adolesence and body shapes can go on changing. Just as they often thicken a little at 40+
A size 10 is very trim and slim and when I was 25, 20 yrs ago () that was the ultimate goal for women: size 8 for an adult was an unheard of goal.I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0 -
