The seller has opened a unpaid dispute against me. I've tried to respond to it and email Ebay, in both instances its asking a few questions including on what date I paid for the item, obviously I having not paid for it, so it wont let me pass this stage. Does anyone have a direct email address which doen't ask such questions.

type his email address or name etc into this website http://www.123people.co.uk/ and it may tell you a little more about this person.

turn the xbox on and go into settings is their any personal details stored or has it been reset to factory settings??

Sounds to me like the xbox was stolen and has been punted onto you, if you have the guys area ring the police in his area and ask if any xboxes have been reported as stolen, also if you mention his name to his local police force he may be well known.

Also run a UV light over the box and see if there are any post codes or adresses or any info written in UV pen. I mark all my expensive leccy items this way

Why would you pay just to be able to raise a dispute when it's not 100% certain.
Who knows, it could be lost on the way back. Then you'll get nothing back from paypal.
Whatever happens, you're still down return postage.

This is what I said, and just be rid of the problem - it'll cost the OP anyway. But apparently the seller will not provide the return address to do so. The OP is hoping that by paying he can open a dispute, so that Paypal will provide him with the address to return it, refund his money, and he'll be no worse off. I THINK! that's the jist of it. But it's a tricky one this!

I wouldn't be paying for it, the refund is definitely not guaranteed. What if his address is somehow wrong/incomplete on paypal too? What if he refuses delivery of the parcel? You'll only get your money back if you can prove tracked delivery to him.

No experience of it, but I would think the only thing he can actually do to force you to pay is take you to small claims court for the money, and if he did so, surely court papers would have his address on, allowing you to return it before the case started?

I'm baffled by this. Why all the stress? Ebay removes NPB strikes all the time. You have been sent an item not as described. Now you are going to pay for it, spend your own money sending it back, then reclaim some of it?
Keep the item, take the strike and wait for the seller to find a way to get his item back. Costs you nowt.
Thanks to Cyberbob for the explanation of Paypal.

Frankly I would have expected more support from Ebay in this. When I phoned ebay the woman was actually more sympathetic to the seller for posting the item before it was paid, saying I had bidded it was legally binding on me to pay etc etc.

Then to crown it the seller told me he would be near my city this weekend so would pay me a visit to get the money, that was the last thing I wanted.

Tested the xbox yesterday then paid, yes I paid!!

Switched it on today and its given me an error message with one red light!!:rotfl:
