hi spongy... i have lots of different aprons from diff era's... and i find the charity shops hold a loads of treasures like that, but i find its the smaller charities that you pick this type of thing up... no offence but the bigger well known ones... are trying to compete with fashion stores these days... so they dont put things like that on sale....or if they do put vintage stuff out they are ott with the price.....so look at the local charity shops the ones that put every thing out for sale that gets donated.... also get chatting to them and say what you are looking for....as they will keep a look out for you then,
i also find the little village charity shop..... not the big town ones are also better for finding things...
good luck in finding one........:rotfl:Work to live= not live to work0 -
I work as a printer and have a plain blue apron that I wore until I was provided with a company polo shirt and sweatshirt. I now use the apron for doing the decorating in, it's indespensible. You can use the pocket to put your pencil, scissors, edge roller etc in and you can wipe paste off your hands with it. Just bung it in the washer when you've finished and it's ready for next time.
By the way, up North we call it a PINNY.

I don't know if they still do them, but a couple of years ago I saw the jacket style aprons in Peacocks. I had always wondered where elderly ladies got them from!!!!!
I haven't looked for them since, so couldn't say if they still sell them!
I would love a pretty bib style apron, but the only place I have seen them is on some of the american housewife websites & they look rather pricey.0 -

You could always make your own. After I paid a bit of a premium for a small piece of laura ashley fabric for an apron the other day, it set me off on a bit of a hunt and I've been picking up fabric here there and everywhere... the lady in the charity shop thought I was nuts and nearly wouldn't take the 20p for the little "scrap of cloth" as she called it, but it's a nice chintzy cotton and enough for an apron.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
I've one of those stripey butchers types. Besides occasionally wearing it for cooking, which I do as little as poss, I wear mine when I have to give one of my cats a tablet - it stops you from getting covered in cat hair and it doesn't matter if they pluck it with their claws whilst having the obligatory struggle !!!
Also, my sister in law borrowed it to wear when she entered the World Dock Pudding Championships.0 -
~I use one when doing messy work....
Now, I wear a white one when practicing my new skill of Indian Head Massage. It saves my clothing getting oily!0 -
I always use my tabard when washing up and cooking and I use the deep pocket in the front for my mp3 or personal stereo. When I was a bit slimmer I would wear just my tabard when cooking and make my husband smile.0

I have a pile of proper "pinnies", which tie at the waist and tie up round the back, which my Aunties made me out of old cotton curtains, tablecloths etc. I even have a couple of Christmas patterned ones!
What else do you wipe floury hands down and where would you put your hankie without a pinny!Just off the border of your waking mind, there lies another time ....0 -
Has anyone a pattern for one just like "Mrs Weasley" wears in the film "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets"? I'd be willing to pay! I've looked on-line and everywhere local for a pattern for this type of pinny to no avail. As seen here: http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d10/justin1837/Jo19/IMAGE097.jpg
Would be awfully grateful for any help,

yes I wear one that goes over the head and ties at the waist for frying and cooking to save my clothes. It has a pocket at the front and say's OPODO, but this is because it came free with a waitrose promotion -so much the better I think.0
