yes, sally - if I fail at the budgetting now, then it will be a big problem. So I am determined to succeed...

gallygirl, thanks for the tip about the hotels. Once I have agreed what weeks I can take from work, I can get things booked up. Then I can start working on a budget for food and spends, and putting some aside each month - there would be 4 paydays to utilise between now and then, so with careful budgetting and planning, I reckon I can squeeze enough out to give us a good week.

I will then have another week off work immediately after (we have to take two consecutive weeks) so I can spend that week doing very little, in order to recover! And whilst I may not manage the white sands and blue skies, I can certainly manage the ipod, books, and G&T :D

    Hi

Just had to pop in again from lurking mode.!! We have booked Travelodge for £22 for a family room, near Chester. We are going to Knowlsey Safari Park, Chester Zoo etc. Excellent for our grandchildren, not sure about teenagers but only cost £44 for 2 nights, which was the main thing.! and that is at the end of July.

On another more serious note, really well done Hypno. My sister could really relate to your story, (but seeing as she doesn't know about our situation and never reads this site) Two years ago she was diagnosed with a fast growing cancer, she had all the usual things, surgery, chemo, and then radiotherapy. Her OH was brilliant, took time off work and looked after her. 6 weeks after the end of her treatment, and being given the all clear, and what should have been the beginning of the rest of their lives, her OH " left her.."......Not in the same circumstances as yourself, he died instantly of a massive heart attack at the age of 51.! He had never been ill in his life, and to say she was devastated is an understatement.

She has had to learn to live again, and take over the finances, he didn't have any insurance or any savings, they had all been used up when she was ill and he wasn't working. But 2 years on, she is stronger, determined, confident, she does have happy days and she has her "just for today days", when she gives in to the tears, anger, regret, and when she over spends or treats herself to something nice, to cheer herself up.. She used to wonder what it was all for, and why this has happened, and who knows the answer to that.!!

Good luck and I'll keep lurking just to keep my eye on you.!!

gosh, elsie, your sister's story sounds awful! At least in my situation, we are all pretty fit and healthy.

At the moment, there seem to be a fair amount of cheap travelodge rooms available. Cheap and cheerful.......we can cope with that :)

You are doing brilliantly, I know its a worry being the mainstay for the family, but you will be okay. You won't settle for anything less.

    Well done

Hmmm......well, I have done an inventory of the freezer/cupboards and there is not as much in there as I thought!

I reckon, apart from bread and fruit, that I can delay the grocery shop for a few days, but probably not more than a week, if I am careful.

I will be keeping a very close eye on it, that's for sure. I feel a long month ahead of me :o

  • Morning Hypno, thought I would drop in and say hello. I love theme parks:o so your holiday sounds perfect to me! :o:o

And the opening post is such a good idea. I don't like to go on about you being inspirational cos sometimes I think it might make you feel a bit...not pressurised exactly but a bit oh I can't think of the word. Any how its good to know despite all the crap you are still doing and planning.

I agree, Buffy - it looks like it can be a bit tough, to me.

Hypno - you had a timetable of matched bets to do yesterday, how did it all go? I did at least make a list of the bookies that I'd done (like I said I would - uh oh, maybe you *are* inspirational ) and there's only 11, which I'm surprised at - there's *loads* I can do, and when I'm confident enough to do reloads, they'll all still be waiting for me :D

Hypno, have you done Bingon via quidco yet? Just spotted it on another forum. Cashback is 20, you have to deposit and play through 10 to get the cashback, so in theory 10 profit. But do check out the small print. Going to give it a try later :)

KC the reloads are not difficult - for example today I have one that Ladbrokes gave me - bet £20 yesterday for a free bet today, and one from WillHill, same - bet £20 for a free £10.....and there are lots like that coming through at the mo. Sometimes reloads are few and far between, so when they are available you need to grab them - all the offers I have done this week and this weekend have been reloads, it is months since I signed up at a new bookie!

Everything settled ok yesterday, and I will know a bit more about how much profit I have made later today......although there is still £90 of SNRs to do which is distorting my profit figures somewhat, but I will work through them in the course of the next week or so.....

se, I've not yet tried bingon - I need to have a quidco/TCB "trawl" over the next couple of weeks......including putting in a couple of "chase ups" for things that have been validated since September.....
