If the loo fills and doesn't drain or drains excrutiatingly slowly then sprinkle the caustic soda into the water slowly stopping from time to time until the sprinkles have dissolved. It heats up when it's dissolving so can pose a risk of spitting boiling caustic solution if you dump too much in too fast. If it can clear the blockage then it will start slowly but speed up rapidly once it's eaten a channel through whatever is blocking your pipe.
Don't rod, grope around in or plunge a loo with caustic soda in it unless you're feeling lucky and wearing disposable water resistant clothing and protective gear as chemical burns do hurt.
Alternatively mix up your soda and pour it into the loo / sink when the water level is low.
Your miliage may vary. It's worked for me in the past."Gold is the money of kings; silver is the money of gentlemen; barter is the money of peasants; but debt is the money of slaves." - Norm Franz0 -
thank you Shaven Monkey for your good advice! :T0

When I used caustic soda to clear a slow running bathroom sink, I mixed it in a bucket first. Use rubber gloves and a wooden stirrer and ALWAYS ADD THE CAUSTIC SODA TO THE WATER NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND!
The mixture gets hot really quickly. I poured it into the sink as soon as it was mixed and it went down literally, like a dose of salts!"If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0 -
Read the thread from start up until the last post and this is freaking hilarious! I believe you alipops1986, I believe you worn a rubber gloves to check if there's a blockage. Since you opted not to call a plumber on a weekend, get that caustic soda from B&Q now before it begins to get more inconvenient! If I'm there I'm going to help you out...0

I have never had a toilet blockage. Does this mean that I am eating the wrong food.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
Useful thread: I am getting lazy trying to flush too much cat litter (wood-based not stupid enough to flush clay) at once so it's only a matter of time ... have previously cleared a bathroom sink blockage with an enzyme-based drain cleaner, and do have some caustic soda in stock.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

Funny thread, some good advice.
This happened to me a few times, especially when one of those cage toilet smellies goes round the bend with the rest of the waste.
I always used a garden hose because it's quite flexible. On one occasion that didn't work until i turned the water on and away it went.0 -
How much caustic soda should I use please? Have stuck 50g down the toilet as the container says, but that is for a drain not a toilet, which presumably contains more water IYSWIM? Not fully blocked with cat litter (wood-based), but draining slightly slower than usual. Forgot to try the bucket of water trick, and cannot look in a manhole as I live in a flat.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0
