Well done you! Surprising what we can do when there's a hefty fee involved.
Nice to see so much support from fellow MSEers. Well done.0 -
do you put the caustic soda down in dry form or make it up first? Just asking for future reference! thanks0

Right to the bottom and as far as i could into the pipe, nothing found and no blockage felt.
Now what?!
I'm determined not to call a plumber at the wkend...
(EDIT: I missed the resolution in the middle of the thread, but for the benefit of others later....)
B&Q and plumber's merchants will sell you extra long rubber gloves (up to the elbows) for exactly this purpose. Maybe find some flexible instrument with which to extend your reach and probe further into the waste pipe. Old kitchen spatula? Short length of garden hose? You need something flexible enough to get past the bend in the pipe, but rigid enough to move things.
The blockage must be close to your WC for it to be filling bowl to the rim immediately when you flush it, unless........ Is the WC on the ground floor or higher up?
Do you know what route the waste pipe takes to leave your house, and do you know if there are any 'rodding points' along the way? Removable cover plates, that allow you to open up the pipe and send one of the flexible rods pictured above in to dislodge whatever's to be dislodged......0 -
home bargains sell drain rods for about a tenner, maybe a better bet than poor kittys fishing rod if it happens again lol'We're not here for a long time, we're here for a good time0

drain rods are no good for the P or S bend on the WC pan.
a drain wire or summat very thin/flexible is required.
ie a glass fibre fishing rod!Get some gorm.0 -

I can vouch for a garden hose pipe especially in comparison to a coat hanger - used it on more than one occasion for the above purpose. The more expensive ones with the nylon webbed string does also work well round those bends. Also you can mark out each meter travelled.0
