You are getting yourself awfully muddled.

Recorded is not the same as special delivery. Recorded is NOT a tracked service and is merely standard mail that occasionally gets confirmation online that shows it has been delivered. If, and only if, it shows online as delivered you would win a paypal claim, you would NOT win a paypal claim if it did not show delivery online. All standard mail has the same insurance capability.

Special on the other hand is a tracked service that is carried differently and tracked throughout. It is the only service for items over £39 and if I sold somehting worth that or more then i would use it, not for a paypal claim prevention, although it would win of course if it showed online as delivered, but as insurance against RM losing it en route.

I know what im saying and it is correct, i know this from experience, read again - i am talking about getting it winning paypal case not getting money from RM, i understand that you may not be covered for full amount with recorded post hence why you should think about the appropriate service to used based on value,

if you send recorded you cannot but ripped off by buyer so this approach safeguards your transaction when using paypal/ebay , if you are sending it recorded and the tracker doesnt show it delivered the you can claim from RM provided it is not too expensive you ca claim back from RM , but if its worth more you should have probably used special delivery.

1st class recorded, has same insurance as first class

"if one of my valued customers told me their item had failed to arrive I would refund them."

And if they decided to say this when it did arrive you would be played for a fool, i guess if you only sell small low value items its not too much of an issue but this multiplies with item value so it just the principle. - this is the safeguard you miss out on, this just doesn't seem to be a concern to you, thats fair enough if you feel that way.

You seem to be missing the point. Recorded delivery is not a Tracked service. Its normal mail with a signature at the end. It has a a high failure rate of getting this tracking which means that over 50% of the time your extra 75pence is wasted.

As for expensive items as Soolin said she does send them special delivery and they are tracked (you don't seem to want to read that part of her postconfused0024.gif
). If you send recorded you can be ripped off by the buyer in all those cases no signature or tracking is entered (this is high). So paying an extra 75p for a service whith a high failure rate that will put my prices up is bad business sense.

If you think all your customers are out to rip you off that is a sad state of affairs. If i thought as you seem to I would not be in business. I my experience including selling some High end electronics 99% of ebay customers are honest and in my 10 years trading I have had very few problems. I sent hundreds of sub £39 value items last year and had one loss. All my expensive sale with special delivery. If your getting more than a few losses out of your items their is something wrong either with the way you are lisying (basically inviting scammers) the way you are packing (no return adresses poor packing) or something wrong with RM so complain. I recently had a problem with a personal parcel I was sending. I sent it twice and it kept getting returned. It turns out that it was a problem with RM which has now been sorted.

you seem to have different experiences to me, i have found recorded very reliable and i don't shift as much stuff as you guys , hence why alot of what you are saying is irrelevant to my point , if want to be sure you wont lose out its a good process to follow , not everyone out there is out for fraud but some are and sometimes people have bad luck, it happens to us all

i guess if 50% of the cost of your recorded post fee is greater than the value of the item is not worth bothering, assuming of course that the service does fail 50% of the time - and its too much trouble to claim with RM to reclaim 100% lost postage cost and upto £39 per item.

I think of all the items I've bought this year and last, only one item went missing, and only one item was sent recorded, (but I didn't sign for it, I was out, so the postie just pushed the jiffy bag through the letterbox).
And only one item was a bit poorer than I expected, but it was secondhand, and will clean up reasonably.

OK, one last question then. If your recorded item fails to arrive would you also not be bothered to claim for loss?
