We now have pork [shoulder], turkey [thigh] & gammon [MrT value] sliced up & either in the fridge or freezer, to use primarily for sandwiches. A quick bit of maths--very quick & based on a generous estimate--this morning, said the collective 1.4 kilo of gammon & turkey has worked out to around 71.4p per 100g. That's allowing for cooking, foil, cook's perks
etc. Not bad really, given there are NO ADDITIVES other than a slice of tomato going in our sarnies

Hi everyone! I'm new here. Didn't see an intro thread so I'm just gonna jump in.
I make my partner's lunch for work as a way to save money, but it's getting tricky to make it interesting. Sandwiches of course, are the easy way to go but how to keep them varied? I make it the night before and a lot of things go soggy inthe fridge overnight.
Does anyone have some inexpensive lunch ideas/ sandwich combos?0 -
How about buttering a couple of barm cakes/bread rolls/slices of bread and putting them into the 'butty box' unfilled, along with some sliced meat/cheese/whole tomatoes/hard boiled egg/small tub of salsa/pickle etc and letting him make his own up when he's ready to eat them. That way the filling shouldn't make the bread go soggy.0

Hi, Also you could make HM quiche or left over cold pizza. I make humous you could take that in a seperate container. Left over cooked bacon or sausage make nice B/SLT's. Also perhaps have a go at making pasta salad, with mayo or tomato sauce or rice, that can be eaten cold.:D I also try bake some HM cakes and cookies for kids packs and hubby doesn't mind taking a few. Also things like container of crisps or nuts and raisens or bombay mix(from large packet). Wraps are als good, sometimes on offer. HTH.Grocery challenge june £300/ £211-50.

Wraps, pizza schrolls or other schrolls (how do you spell schrolls lol), left over dinner, bread sticks and dip, if your partner has a toasted sandwich machine or press at work you can make all kinds of nice toasted sandwiches ...
Someone will come and merge this into previous threads, which I am sure will have heaps of ideas..."Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without!!"Nov NSD: ?/30 Nov Make 10 Day ?/300Get Rid Of Debt: ?/2000 !! :mad:0 -
If he has access to a microwave then there's loads of stuff, but if not...
With access to a kettle there's lots of inexpensive noodle-type dishes, cup-a-soups, and a fave of mine is snackpack flavoured couscous (been on offer in ASDA lately at 3 for £1).
I've just challenged myself to do lunches & daytime snacks for myself for 50p a day - as we have a fridge/freezer, kettle & microwave I think I can manage it - here's a couple of my lunches.
Asda 3-bean soup (tin) 35p - yummy & very filling! They do their value soups at 18p a tin but they are thinner so I needa bread roll with them, still good value though.
A dried pack of bologniase or chilli mix 58p (meat free so quite healthy!) from ASDA again - made this up, and cooked a packet of their smartprice pasta quills (on offer at 19p at the mo!) this made 4 good portions which I have frozen to take in & microwave.
There is a thread somewhere on doing 'butty boxes' for a quid a day - maybe someone can point it out as I can't find it at the mo'!The best advice you can give your children: "Take responsibility for your own actions...and always Read the Small Print!"

Hi Fanfare,
Welcome to MSE:hello:
There's an earlier thread with lots of ideas that should help so I've added your thread to it to keep the suggestions together.

Pleased to report the roasted slices of various joints are a success :j They've thawed in the fridge over-night with no trouble or change to taste or texture.Full time Carer for Mum; harassed mother of three;loving & loved by two 4-legged babies.
