    Hi Amanda,

I've added your thread to the current packed lunch thread which has lots of ideas that should help to keep all the suggestions together.

My husband's lunch box consists of two home-made rolls, one filled with cheese and the other with home-made jam, plus a couple of cherry tomatoes, a couple of pickled shallots and two home-made buns. He usually has a couple of pieces of fruit also, for good measure.

It's not the same thing all the time, as the type of jam, the buns and the fruit will vary.

Hi sometimes we use tortilla wraps rather than bread for mine & dh snacks. basically we buy a pack spread butter or not depending on preference. Then fill with whatever u like. I like chicken/ham with a load of salad. Where dh prefers mustard/mayo with chicken & lettuce. Then once filled just roll and go.

you can buy food flasks now they are about £3 or £4 in Asda or Wilkinsons, they are like athermos but with a wide neck. My husband travels around the country and appreciates a hot meal at lunch time especially in the winter
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Does anyone have any good ideas for work lunches?

I currently have ham and salad or tuna mayonaise sandwiches and I'm really starting to get bored with them. I try to mix things up, by using Pitta Breads or Wraps - but I really need some inspiration to make better exciting and cheap lunches for work :)
  • Do you like salad?

Take a container of salad, with some strips of cooked meat, or grated cheese on top.

Or a pasta salad is cheap and easy to make, cook pasta, cool, add tomato sauce or pesto.

Or rice salad, cold rice mixed with diced peppers, peanuts & raisins, mixed with a bit of mayo + curry powder.

(don't forget to take a fork!)

Makes a change from sandwiches every day!
  • I often make an omelette and take slices cold to work with some salad. Another favourite is a jacket potato (but then I have access to a microwave at work), but you could take it ready cooked. Soup might be another option (in a thermos if you can't microwave it), especially as the autumn draws near.
  • Hi there  We have a long thread on work lunches, so I'll add this one so that you can browse all suggetsions there.

I take soup and HM bread; salad and HM coleslaw; leftovers :D
