Hi Diana,
There's an earlier thread with some more ideas that may help so I've added your post to it.
It's also worth having a look through some of the packed lunch threads to see what people take to work as that may give you some inspiration. This is the most recent one we've had but there are hundreds of others.

Just got back to this! For some reason I didn't get an email
Husband has told me he will eat pack up from now on, as long as it's not sarnie, crisps and choccy biccy LOL.
I'm going to hunt around for pasta and cous cous dishes etc. Kids like those. So does husband.
Crackers/ryvita....I'll pick some of those up. Don't they go soggy if you spread them though?
I should also get baking. Quiche, fruit cake, cheese pastries, cornish pasty, home made sausage rolls. I'm not sure it's going to save us money, but at least the money will go on nutrition rather than empty caloriesProud to be dealing with my debts :T
Don't throw away food challenge started 30/10/11 £4.45 wasted.

With the increasing price in groceries, my work canteen is just getting too expensive for me, so I would like to start taking my lunch with me. Do any of you have any good ideas or recipes as to what to take as I don't want to get stuck in the sandwich and piece of fruit cycle, as I know I'll get bored really quickly with it and start buying things at work again (and I can't afford it any more). Many thanks :hello:0

There's an older thread here - packed lunches on the cheap. I'll add your question to it later.

this week I have taken some made up savoury rice (22p asda smart price) mixed with some diced salami and a couple of chopped up tomatoes.
tota cost for 3 days:
2 x 22p rice = 44p
1 pick sliced salami - 59p
6 tomatoes - 50p ish
so total is £1.53 for 3 day - 51p per day
a large and filing lunch. I usually take some fruit and a yogurt or bag of crisps to snack n too.0 -
nuts!nuts! anyone taking nuts to school nowdays would be strung up. Im still intregied (and cant spell) as to whay so many kids are allergic to nuts nowdays.
Anyway, good ideas thanks.Maybe this should be moved to the moneysaving home thread as not a real grabbit. Welcome new poster though.
Hi there,
I've just come on to get some new ideas for packed luches and noticed people talking about nuts.
I'm allergic to nuts and have been since I was about 7 - am now 45, so it is not a new thing - I found out the hard way after eating an ice cream with sprinkled nuts on.
I can understand the concern - it's not a nice condition, my face swells up like a balloon, my eyes close up and so does my throat and I cannot breath. On top of that I am really sick, which with a closed throat is quite dodgy - it is very frightening and lots of people have died from it, so must be really scary for little kids - I even get swollen lips if I give someone a peck who has been eating nuts!
Anyway, to the point, I understand about them not being allowed in school but do get annoyed with our 'nanny' society who tell us what we can and cannot do even if we are not affected. I managed very well in school with other kids eating nuts, etc - I knew I was allergic so stayed away, simple. I wasn't stupid, I hated being sick so stayed away, and yet we don't trust kids who know they are allergic nowadays to do the same thing... We need to trust our kids more, after all people are allergic to tuna, cheese, etc, yet we still send these in.I could go on, but this is not the place.

Any ideas how to get a 14 yo to take a packed lunch? She's insisting on 2.50 a day and refusing packed lunches for her new school! At her old school she had a dinner ticket (and used to sell it, not impressed but what can we do about it?), but she won't qualify for one at her new school. Any ideas? She's not budging!CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J0

My 14yo dd also refuses to take packs, but since my lbm last June, I haven't given her lunch money. She has had a wee Saturday job since she was 13, so she decided to use her own money, thing is she only ever buys a sandwich. I still don't agree with it, but what can I do.
