bite the bullet and go to 145, its people through the door that you need and this hasnt happened at any price you've put it on so far
i understand, i put mine on right at the start of the collapse, so the initial 'valuation' of 220 was actually quite reasonable, just before the crash, it would have got about 240, so in my head, i have 'dropped' 70k, but of course in reality thats nonsense, its money i never really had, but gutting all the same because it affected what we could then buy next (not in a positive way because we were buying cheaper than i was selling becuse of my stupid debts)
so, you have to grow to accept the price and the situation or just accept that you're staying put, one of those situations has to happen0 -
You're on a decent corner plot, in what you say is a nice area. I would stay where you are and extend/modify your house to meet your needs.:jProud mummy to a beautiful baby girl born 22/12/11 :j0

Price. Price and Price.
A family room? What's one of them? Kids can play in their bedrooms or in "family room we call a lounge"
Put an extension on your house. Get the downstairs loo and family room you want.
This made me almost choke "To get a newer house (mine is 40year old)"
OMG An old house. Please...
Get some magnolia and paint your house. Then drag the next door house until it's 1ft from your side wall and that'll be what a new build is like.0 -

yes, i did giggle about the 'old house' thing, ours is 1929 built, and i would love a georgian house, this feels too modern for me!!!0

Hold my hands up - Fair point poppysarah, I guess maybe what I need to do is just moderise my house, the brick work on my house isnt good, you cant really see, does re-pointing make a big difference?0 -
Agree with those saying it's price. People telling you it's too small actually mean "we expected more for the price"!0

so are you feeling that the house needs a general maintenance drive? well it will do if it hasnt been touched for 40 years in terms of painting the outside, cleaning the outside etc,,, this is why you're probably feeling you want rid of it
put some effort into maintanence, save up for the extension and it get it done in stages so that over the next 2 years or so, you have the house of your dreams. you cant change the area you live in (and you appear to like this area) but you can change the house
you might move to a 5 year old house, pay way over the odds for it and hate the area....0 -
I don't know how much more you can afford to spend on a house but your list of wants is certainly not a list of needs. You have a nice house on a corner plot which is crying out to be extended. I'd get more quotes for the extension as it shouldn't really cost that much to extend it - it would be a relatively simple extension.
I'm flabberghasted by the 'newer house' comment; they're not like cars you know, they don't depreciate like that, and yours is quite clearly moderninsed. It looks like like you're trying to keep up with the Jones' than moving for a genuine need.
Would I move from a detached house for the sake of a downstairs loo and an ensuite? Not a chance. I am 'fortunate' enough to have had spare reception rooms in our last few houses and the kids have simply never used them for anything. They play in their bedrooms or frankly, wherever the desire takes them, I can't confine them to one room.
Quite seriously, the dog has a very expensive bedroom with an expensive leather suite for a bed!
You could render the house if you extend - the lower cost of using block rather than brick matching would probably just about make up for the cost of render.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
