Money Moral Dilemma: Should Janet pay John’s tip?

Yes if she feels so, possibly John was not even aware that the tip was not incl in the bill- also do we buy caged hen eggs when shopping with a friend not to offe:jnd???0

With reference to the original question, I think it's trickier than it seems. On the one hand, it's a first date and both of them would want to make a good impression; this is probably why John paid the bill and equally why Janet would be tempted to let things slide even if she is strongly in favour of a tip. (Although in my experience, most men pay on the first date. From then on, it's usually always a split.)
On the other hand, why should Janet let John decide for her? I have a few friends who are "against" tipping, for the same reasons some people have mentioned here earlier, but I am in favour of it, even if it means paying the whole tip for the table plus my own contribution. But nobody makes a fuss about it and they don't try and convince me otherwise. We accept eachother's beliefs and get on with it.0 -
NO TO TIPPING!
Im sorry but I do not belive in tipping at all! We live in the UK, we have a minimum wage for workers. Why should waitresses get tipped for carrying food over to my table? Its not like they are only working for tips they are getting their wages, the same as everyone else in all other proffesions do. You dont tip your doctor for treating you, or your dentist for giving you pearly whites, so why on earth does everyone feel the need to give a waitress who brings over your food what she is being paid to do a tip??
I know in America the waitresses work on mainly tips as their wages, but we dont live in another country.
This tipping farse needs to be nipped in the bud before it gets out of hand, When you buy a meal, you are paying for eating in that place so why should the bringing the food to your table part be not included??
NO TO TIPPING!!!!

I waitressed in my student years, I relied on my tips to pay my taxi fares home when I finished at stupid o'clock,
If I didn't get tips I had a long walk, damn! I was a good waitress I had to be lol
An easy question for me this one as I give tips now,
I'd just say "I used to be a waitress in my student years, would you mind if I leave a tip?" and leave one before he got chance to answer :-)A heap big thank you to everyone who posts the comps, your all stars!
Proud to of never used or felt the need to use a chain of any sorts on a puppy0 -
My husband never tips and since the day I met him I have always given him a nudge to do so, or I will. Don't "!!!!! foot" around issues, first date or not, if you really feel strong enough about it.:T0

I always think that if you are "treated" to a lovely meal then paying the tip is a way of contributing without ruffling a male ego!!!0

And I worked at Morrisons in my student years and finished at stupid o'clock.
Then I had to walk home, didn't see anyone offering me tips as I weighed out bananas.0 -
