I bid a price for a 4 star deluxe hotel but got a 3.5 star upscale plus which I might have been able to put in a lower bid for. Hope you can understand this and thanks again for your help.
LBV does have a 4 star deluxe category. The resorts are a higher category, so automatically included in a search where a lower one has been specified. You have not won a 3.5 star, you have won a resort.
Edit: Is it the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress?Gone ... or have I?0 -

Where?
I didn't choose Resorts
When you choose 4* in an area where there are Resorts then Resort hotels are automtaically included in your bid
but I still got the Hyatt. I specified 4 star deluxe only, but in the area the Hyatt is in, ie, Lake Buena Vista Downtown Disney, it shows there are no 4 star deluxe hotels.
I'm afraid it does, look again

You won a Resort which is higher than a 4* in Pl terms
which I might have been able to put in a lower bid for. Hope you can understand this and thanks again for your help.
I think you need to re-read my guide and brush up on how to bid:cool:
I'm sure the Hyatt will be fine.0 -
Hi. Don't want to waste any more of your time because I do think the Hyatt Cypress will be great, it was more to clarify why I got it rather than the Omni or Gaylord Palms. You are correct that on the UK site, there is 4 star deluxe listed for Lake Buena Vista Downtown Disney but I went through the US one and there isn't. It is different which is probably why the confusion.
I got the 4.5 star rating off Hotels.com and I think maybe on Better bidding people have alluded to the Omni being 4.5 star. I have stayed there before but not at Gaylord Palms. Once again thanks for your help.:)There are three ways to get something done; do it yourself, hire someone or forbid your kids to do it.0 -

I see the discrepancy now between the UK site and the US site.
Though it's irrelevant as LBV has a resort and I assume you bid in two areas together (Maingate and LBV) for 4* (Which actually means 4* and upwards) so you were "Upgraded" to a resort with your 4* bid which won you a resort in LBV.

Has anyone ever had to use the Priceline best price guarantee?
I booked a hotel through the Name Your Own Price section last night and ended up paying £234 for two nights in Crowne Plaza London Shoreditch. However, the room is available for the same nights at £220 through the tripsta website.
The Priceline best price guarantee T&Cs state:
Priceline's "Best Price Guarantee" applies only to the room rate and does not include any charges for Taxes and Service Fees charged by priceline or similar charges by any other online service.
I'm a bit confused by this as the rate I bid on priceline (before taxes and fees) was £95 so does this mean they'll compare £95 a night to the £110 a night from Tripsta and deem themselves cheaper?
Just want to be prepared before I phone them to try to claim on the guarantee. Thanks for any advice. I feel like a total loser for being ripped off.0 -
Price guarantees are always before service and tax charges -works the same with Marriott.
Base price compares with base price not total price. So you need to check how Tripsta have broken down the price . Compare the nightly rate ie if priceline is £100 a night and tripsta is £80 for one night and £110 for the other it isn't a price match even though the total for both nights together is lower. You could try to claim one of those nights though.
I have successfully claimed on the PL guarantee for a Vegas hotel without issue-took a while to show up on my card though.
Marriott's best price guarantee is always worth a look I've just price beaten a US Marriott so they matched the lower price AND then discounted it 25% so we've ended up with a superior room with lounge access drinks, snacks, breakfast etc for less than the price of their basic room.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Thanks for the advice ... can't seem to find the base price on any of the hotel comparison websites. They break it down by day but only give the price including taxes as far as I can see so I can't actually find a figure to go back to Priceline with. Maybe it's not worth it. Worse bit is, some of the rooms include breakfast and are still cheaper than what I paid0 -
been on the phone to Priceline for 35 minutes now. Not going well!
What I'm trying to explain to them is that I can find the same hotel for £229 on Vivastay.com
They aren't even comparing base prices - just the total price, but they keep saying to me that when they go to vivastay and put the details in the price comes up as £243. We keep going around in circles with me saying "it says £229" and them saying "no it says 243". I'm so frustrated!!! Anyone know why we would be given different prices?Priceline customer services is based in the Phillipines by the way if this makes a difference.

Continuing my one woman show here - an update for anyone who might want to know about the Best Price Guarantee in the future:
I eventually was successful by finding a cheaper price on another website. This one showed the same figure on their screens so they accepted it. They are refunding me the difference +10% (not $25 as stated on the website - apparently this applies to the US only).
Only took an hour but I'm glad I persisted. Just hope the money comes through now.
And I can confirm that the two people I spoke to at priceline only compared the total price including taxes & fees, rather than the base price. I'm not sure if this would differ for US hotels.0 -
