The truth of Priceline is that it's pretty good for finding hotels in the USA, but poor for anything in the UK...........many better deals to be had by contacting hotels direct, or via lastminute.com etc etc

Just shop around, plus you know what you are going to get.

After Lastminute.com left me stranded in Stavanger I would never use them again

I use PL in the US a lot but the same rules re research apply to UK hotels. I've had fantastic prices for cities in the UK especially London, Manchester and Cardiff. Ultimately it's down to researching properly so you have realistic expectations (not to say a cheeky bid below that expectation won't sometimes pay off ;) )

I disagree - I have had excellent deals in Manchester and London.

PL is not the silver bullet for every trip, and there are less participating properties in UK than USA (no surprise really considering size!)

There are UK bargains out there, just research all outcomes !

I did some research and wanted to get either the Omni or Gaylord Palms which are 4.5 star. I selected various areas so I could delete them to give me more chances of bidding, but I ended up winning a hotel in an area which showed no 4.5 star hotels. Can I get out of this? Thanks.

Most probaby not-sounds like you messed up somewhere :o

    Not sure what this means

    What hotel did you win?

Which areas did you select ?

I won the Hyatt in the Lake Buena Vista area. I put it in, as there were no 4.5 star hotels, so if my bid was not successful I could delete it as an option and put in another slightly higher bid. Does that make sense? I selected numerous areas so I could do that strategy after checking that the only area with 4.5 star was the one which I wanted to be left with. Thanks for your quick reply btw.

There are no 4.5 ratings on priceline

There are 4 stars and then Resorts.

Gaylord, Omni and Hyatt are Resorts.

Sorry 4 star deluxe. They are referred to as 4.5 stars elsewhere. I didn't choose Resorts but I still got the Hyatt. I specified 4 star deluxe only, but in the area the Hyatt is in, ie, Lake Buena Vista Downtown Disney, it shows there are no 4 star deluxe hotels. I bid a price for a 4 star deluxe hotel but got a 3.5 star upscale plus which I might have been able to put in a lower bid for. Hope you can understand this and thanks again for your help.
