I would always hire a car you can get a 2 door economy for £108 a week from https://www.uscarhire.co.uk We've used them the last 2 years. it's through dollar and on both occasions have gotten a 4 door compact. plenty room for cases fitted 2 large and a pull along into the boot (only just managed to get them in the senic at home!! I've come to the conclusion they don't have 2 door economy cars but will try and get you to upgrade!!
It's so easy to drive there plus they pretty much stick to the speed limit of 50mph.0 -

In Florida, like many parts of the USA, you are totally dependant on a car. There is virtually no public transport as we know it.
If staying close to Disney in a hotel you can get a courtesy bus, but it is a real bind.
To not spend a couple of hundred pounds on a rental car is a false economy IMO.0 -
We have done Orland twice in the last 18 months. The first time we stayed in I-Drive and did not have a car. The free bus to Universal was a real fight to get a place on, and to get to Disney was either half a days travel on 3 buses or a 15 minute very expensive taxi ride. It ended up costing us more in taxi fares than we would have spent on the car.
Our second trip we stayed at a different hotel on I-Drive and had a car. What a difference! The whole holiday was much better we could spend whenever we liked at the theme parks and not be reliant on taxi/bus times, we even managed 4 different parks on one day! (including Epcot's night show which was not possible the first trip)
Believe me - to get value for money from your holiday you really need the car.0 -
we plan on doing a week in florida at Easter, following a week in north carolina at a friends wedding, our kiddies are very young so we dont plan on ramming much in but Sea World is a must for my 5 year old. Any of you been for just a week ? should we look at getting a villa for that time or just a hotel/travel lodge type thing ? ? would prefer to go self catering as we are going to be have to careful with pennies.

I do a week in Orlando and then somewhere elese every year!!! It is up to you if you get villa or hotel - it depends on how much you will be eating in etc - it is easy enough to get villa for a week and probably with the children be easier.
