Surely this is advertising......... I've seen you mention you have a villa on numerous occasions.

I have seen others mention that they they have villas as well - and I dont have anything against it - its not as if they have large signatures with price details of their villa's etc. Anyhow this is MSE - perhaps if people got in touch they get a special MSE discount ??? Hint hint ...

about this whole car hire debate...

when we were out there, we bought a ticket for the ITrolley one day, and it was a complete waste of $6 - we spent best part of two hours fighting to get a place on the bus - we wanted to drink whilst out, so didnt want to take the car - in the end we cut our losses and went back to the hotel to pick up the car, and drove.

i think it is madness to even contemplate not hiring a car, because i cant imagine having much of a holiday relying on their public transport "system"

driving out there is lovely, so much more enjoyable than driving over here (once you get used to being on the "wrong" side of the road), and the freedom it gives is, IMHO, invaluable.

and even when the americans were complaining about the "high" fuel prices, it was still a fraction of what we pay over here (after the old orleans/hurrican katrina thing)

its quite sad really, but one of the things OH was most saddened about when we came home was having to leave the car behind. what is, to the americans , an economy car, was the height of comfort and luxury to drive, and talk about spacious, you could have held a rave in the boot..sorry i mean trunk :D :rotfl:

  • Okay I've never had a problem with them in either Miami, Orlando Int'l or Sanford - used them several times, always been nice & helpful....and at Sanford super friendly.

However......I work at a large travel agency in the aftersales department, and I'm getting increasing complaints about Dollar in Florida. Nothing has been repeated yet - they've all been different complaints, so I can't advise to avoid a particular product or depot, there's no pattern, just that anecdotally they're not as great as they used to be (I last used them in June & Nov 2005).

So I won't say (yet) don't use them - just beware & double check things before you drive off. But remember, if you do have a problem just pop along to the nearest depot to you whether it's on I-Drive or at the airport and they should swap you over no problems there & then (with your orig rental dox).

    Hope this helps!

    cheers ;)

we used avis (booked the hol through travel agent, but it was cheaper to pay for full blown separate car hire than take the one from th hotel)..not sure how they compare price wise, but the car was fab and service was top notch.

  • Well ive done the flight part of our trip and i am on the villa hunt now, and after many emails seem to have come across a 3 bed for 7 nights at indian creeek for £500. this is the cheapest i can find with prices ranging up to £750.00. i know we may be able to get a cheaper price, but is this an acceptable figure for easter holidays ? ? off to check out those car hires now !! this site has been soo helpful. thanks everyone.

    Hello,

Dont know how good this offer is, but on the front page of yesterday's Daily Star there was an offer for book one week in Florida and get a week free.

I cant post the details on here, but will post them on the Discounts board where codes are allowed.

You have to phone an 0870 number and it is thro MyTravel and Airtours. I think it is Apollo Travel, cos the lady phoned me back and said she was from Apollo.

They couldnt beat Travel City Direct's price for me, but worth a phone call.

(I couldnt find an alternative number on saynoto0870.com either !!)
