Thanks everyone, taken your advice and have booked a villa in orlando for two weeks!

Just have to sort hire car and theme park tickets. Some friends have recommended buying theme park tickets when we get there. Is it cheaper to do it this way or should i buy online here first?

I recommend the guys below for car hire - the costs are all inclusive and you save a lot of money compared to buying over there - ditto for park tickets.

Well Vanilla8 you're well ahead of us. I'm still researching flight prices. I've found mytravel at £420 each (inc taxes) for our dates in August which seems a bargain. This will definitely be our only long haul for a lot of years so we really don't want to spend the whole time doing the mouse thing (or universal etc), would def like to visit the everglades and the coast. Does anyone have any recommendations for guide books for florida?

Got back this morning from a 2 week holiday. Did fly-drive with Direct then booked a villa with http://www.youtravel.com/index.asp

We chose a Disney Area Villa which was on Highway 27 about 25 minutes drive from Disney. It was a 4 bed 3 bath with pool & cost us less than £580 for the fortnight. We were the first party to stay in it.

Only drawback was that supermarkets & restaurants were about 2 miles away, but would recommend You Travel. They use http://www.elitevacationsinc.com/ as their agent in Kissimmee.
Going down the Oteley Road to see the Shrewsbury aces! :T

The Rough Guide to Florida - great book. Try Amazon market place, there are a lot of retailers selling it for about 6 quid delivered! It retails at £13.

Also, online, visit tripadvisor and goto the area you're interested in for some great information.

hi people. got back from florida last week. we used airline network for our car hire, they use dollar but are very cheap, also 2.8% quidco  . a tip i picked up from this site was to book the smallest car you can fit into as you usually get a free upgrade, well worked for me. booked a deawoo kalos - got some huge big car for no extra :T . for tickets we used attraction tickets direct, i would recommend these. our tickets arrived by registered post 5 days later, they also price match. once you get there ENJOY.

    Hi

We are saving up presently to go to Orlando for 4 weeks in 2009. We have been 5 times before and have only ever travelled with Virgin and gone through Mercury Travel. Never had any problems and always got a fabulous price!

Looking at Virgin prices ATM, the flights alone compared with Dec 07 prices will cost us £2800. There is 2 adults and 1 child (she will be 14/15 so an adult in costings)

Villa and car hire I can get quite cheapily, its just the flight prices are crippling us! Any ideas? Have never been with any other flight operator as we have been spoilt with Virgin-we always go via Premium Economy for the extra space. We like the added baggage allowance that comes as standard and the other added bonuses you get with Virgin!

I am also in a wheelchair as DD is counted as disabled due to blindness and judging distances.

I am coming up with a costing of around £5500 which includes Virgin Premium seats, 4 weeks villa/pool, 7 seater minibus, wheelchair hire and tickets. Does this sound about right? Is there any way of slashing this?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Guys,
i asked this last week but no one seems to have replied, could anyone help me at all with my questions ?

    Hi Guys :hello:

Right after all of the huming and ahhing about travelling to the far east we are now going to visit my OH's brother in Utah !!!

Bit of a difference i know, but i have said that if we are going to go to America then i want to 'do' Disney :j

i'm actually very exited although he's a bit 'whatever'

Anyway my question is: we will be taking my little boy who was one last week :D is there anything that we would all be able to go on together ie train rides etc. or is it going to be a switch the baby week ???

I am a rollercoaster fan or anything that scares the poop out of you the better in my opinion, what park would be the best for us we are only going to stay for a week and then fly over and see his brother.. although i'd like to go to maybe sea world or the one that you can swim with dolphins so that the baby can have fun as well :D

    Thanks

    hi Callumpster

taking the plunge to "do disney" is not easy, i know. in answer to your question, i am sure there are things to do at disney with little one's, my dd is 7 so she could go on most things but imo you could look for a day at universal islands o a, suess landings would be good for little one and also lots of big coasters for you. :j as for swimming with dolphins (discovery cove) it's great but not much "swimming" with the dolphins more like standing in cold water being told about dolphins while stroking and kissing your allocated dolphin! yes dolphin singular. kids must be six to swim with dolphin(i think)
but go to orlando do disney and have fun!!!!!!!!
