Feeling low with clutter

I'm having a paperwork/phone calls/emails/posting/paying day today so I can clear my mind of all the little jobs niggling me.
Then it's back to sanding the hallway/landing/stairs paintwork prior to painting. I had to give up last week as I had a stinking cold and a cough, and even with a mask, the dust was making me feel awful.
DD(17) has painted her room over the weekend so I'm sorting finances today, before going to Ikea for furniture and getting her a carpet.
My house looks in chaos at the moment but it is slowly getting done and I'm determined to have a finished house for the first time in my life!
Well done everyone else for plugging away at it - slowly slowly catchy monkey! :j
I'm glad the visitor left happy, mupette. :T0 -
Ok i need to do something today, i promised myself and i have put it on here.
On my second cup of coffee and I must do something after that.
I have a big cupboard upstairs that i really should sort out, then i can pack stuff in there after...
Boxes of video's that i am not sure what to do with.
old duvets that i really should sort out, one to be kept and chopped up for bedding for the dog would be good. one for my I am poorly and need duvet on the sofa (although the new double duvet i got for French exchange will do just fine)
lots of music cd's that need a clear out, i know there is a website that will buy them from you..
And old paperwork that could do with sorting and throwing.
oh and a pair of tiger bootees of ds when he was a baby (i cant chuck those)
2 decks for when i used to pretend i could be a dj.
a mixer too
and quite possible an amp that no longer works or has loose wiring.
Yup that's what i will do, that cupboard upstairs. then i can box up stuff and store in there out the way all packed up stuff.
Just drink my coffee and do it.. there i said it... if i look at that statement long enough perhaps my body will respond in a positive way
ohh forgot to mention, took exchange student to airport Saturday and the organiser gave me £25.00 in cash. she asked if the school helped and i said no, so she gave me the money, i thanked her and asked she thanked the commity. there is some kindness in this world.0 -
Hi all, normally read but don't post, but have been inspired by you all. Am in the process of moving (very very slowly) out of rented housing (tied with job) into our own house again. Have been given furniture (which I don't need) from all sides of the family, so am going through and asking what we really want / need.
Am doing the same with everything else too. Half way through painting rented house (easier than cleaning as the paint comes off the walls when you scrub!), and when the sun comes out later will be washing curtains too - have to do it when the littlies are at school. Its messy and disorganised having these sort outs but it is very good when you've finished!Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -
I've got into a habit of watching how clean is your house on more 4 in the afternoons and one thing that i liked was net curtains cleaning.
bowl of water with some strident (teeth cleaners) or soap powder
fold up your net curtains (needs to be folded) a few mins soak.
into another bow to rinse, keep folded, role in towel and stand on towel....
unroll and clean no need to iron net curtains ready to hang.
Not tried it but it looked quick and efficient0 -
Mupette - how lovely: I'm very glad to here of their thoughtfulness. You worked really hard to give your son and this lad a good time, and considering your health issues I think we need a standing ovation smilie:D
Pigpen - is the clue in your username?:D
Our boiler expired a few weeks ago and we haven't had hot water for over 2 weeks now and we have both been busy thse last few days,so the washing up has rather piled up so we are going to have to have a mass washing session to clear the kitchen this afternoon if we want any cutler/plates/ cooking pans. It certainly makes you appreciate how much easier life is with hot running water.
Kingfisher - I have to have sleep catch ups too and have to have a slow start to the day.
Today I need to delclutter my work space as I have finshed what i was working on for now and the desk has about 6" square left to work on.
Well done esmf, bestspud and exspendaholicI try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0 -
Ok i need to do something today, i promised myself and i have put it on here.
On my second cup of coffee and I must do something after that. lol, I do that every morning lol hoping somehow it'll get me moving, but the fallacy of that idea is when I have something really urgent to do.., I don't even make a cup of coffee to drink while I work. Still do it tho lol.
I have a big cupboard upstairs that i really should sort out, then i can pack stuff in there after... We must live in the same house somehow, I have the self same cupboard
Boxes of video's that i am not sure what to do with. I don't know if its of help.., but all my vids went into the attic, should have thrown them out but couldn't quite bear to cause its all my Star Trek and Bab 5 vids - yes I have copies of them on DVD but that isn't the point ., its history :P
old duvets that i really should sort out, one to be kept and chopped up for bedding for the dog would be good. one for my I am poorly and need duvet on the sofa (although the new double duvet i got for French exchange will do just fine) Keep enough available for those wonderful stomach bugs kids get occasionally needing frequent changes of bedding lol. I've ended up having to use thick towels before now if its a bad one. More with my older son cause he never managed to be ill in a civilised manner. I won't go into details he he!
2 decks for when i used to pretend i could be a dj. a mixer too
and quite possible an amp that no longer works or has loose wiring.Would it be worth putting those on ebay? Start the auction of at the minimum price u find acceptable and see what happens. Just mention the amp needs repair but the rest works perfectly (assuming it does. Contact me if u need advice.
ohh forgot to mention, took exchange student to airport Saturday and the organiser gave me £25.00 in cash. she asked if the school helped and i said no, so she gave me the money, i thanked her and asked she thanked the commity. there is some kindness in this world. So glad u had some assistance in the end
lol, suddenly realised Muppet and I could be identical twins lol. Sure there's one or two others of us that are doing the same stuff.0 -
Hi, how is everyone? I stayed away from this thread through guilt because I've done nothing, and if anything have struggled to keep to the changes I made earlier - still using the chair as a junk pile
I did declutter the top of the dishwasher last week though, and the kitchen windowsill and the cupboard under the sink (huge job!) so I feel much better about things like lightbulbs, sewing kit, bleach etc. now that I know exactly where to find them.
There are benefits to this decluttering, I just wish I was better at it lol! It's ongoing, honest. Eventually the kitchen and the sitting room will be sorted!52% tight0 -
I was good i decluttered the cupboard upstairs, eveything back in there is boxed to go, left out 1 storage box of cd's and one of videos.
