Sainsburys - Absolute Joke/Expensive

i agree that morrissons offers the best balance ie good quality for a reasonable price, but i think supplementing this with cheap fruit and veg from lidls and coke/crisps etc from farmfoods works best for us0

I shop at sainsburys and morrisons, tesco are always the most expensive to us and on comparison would cost us £35 more to shop there, i don't like asda food either it always seems unclean in our asda.0

I find Sainsbury's expensive and their BOGOFs always seem to be for stuff I don't buy. Tesco (where we've always shopped) is getting ridiculously expensive though, we've started buying some bits and pieces at Iceland and are constantly amazed at how many more carrier bags we come out with for the same spend.
I've tried Asda in the past but I find the stores depressing (maybe it was the area it was in) and when we ordered online it was ALWAYS late (more than 2 hours on one occasion.)
Oh how I envy those of you with a Morrisons, when I worked on a magazine that did 'blind' taste tests Morrisons stuff often came out top. Unfortunately I live in the south where they're few and far between so can only shop there when holidaying on the Isle of Wight!Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)
December £361.54, November £322.28, October £288.52, September £374.30, August £223.95, July £71.45, June £251.22, May£119.33, April £236.24, March £106.74, Feb £40.99, Jan £98.54) Total for 2017 - £2,495.100 -
asda is on the same level as lidl/netto and farmfoods - ie, rubbish tasting food. thats like comparing M&S to Tesco.0

It's amazing how things change from place to place. My local supermarket is a Waitrose only, and I think I would jump for joy if we got a Sainsburys! Waitrose is nice but so expensive, especially on a budget.0

I devide my shopping between Tesco's and sainsburys as they are the two supermarkets closest to me .Asda'a is a good five miles away and morrison about three.morrisons is in a not very good area as well which puts me off.Somerfield is about three miles away and the car park is underground and also not in a very safe area.As I walk with a stick and am not very mobile I tend to go where its easier to park and more visible to other people .
tescos have various things that I like but I really do prefer sainsburys for fresh meat. O.K. sometimes their stuff is a little more expensive but its my choice to shop there.I have a Wilkinsons local to where I live so cleaning stuff can usually be bought there fairly reasonably.I am lucky that I also have a fresh fish shop and a greengrocer locally. I can also buy locally butchered meat from the local chap if I don't feel like going to Sainsburys.I suppose there are around 4-6 shops that I alternate between but as I am retired I can choose and know the prices of most things and where the special offers are. I also have an Icelands locally which I buy my milk from at £1.10 for 4 litres.I am not particularly 'loyal' to any shop really I shop where the best prices are and have a rough idea in my head as to which is best value for what I want .When we moved here from London 15 years ago my DD wanted us to find a place that was accessable by both car and bus as with ageing we would possibly not drive as much .I have a 10 minute bus service to the local shopping presinct at Hempstead Valley withing a three minute walk away and also am on a bus route to Bluewater.I live five minutes from a train station so I don't always have to use my car if I want to go out for the day.We looked at lots of houses at the time but chose the one with the best transport facilities .A country cottage might have been nicer but not if you get snowed in or you have a long walk to the shops .Forward planning by both Dd and I have meant that I am very well served for shops and yet am only a five minute drive and I'm in the countryside .40 minutes and I can be in Dover and on a boat to visit my brother in france and a 50 minute train journey will take me to central London.Shops are I think a personal choice and you pays your money and you takes your pick.0 -
I think that shop layout has a lot to do with finding the best bargains, and with your overall perception of the shopping experience. I shop at 3 Sainsbury (mainly) and 3 Tesco stores depending on where I'm working - occasionally at Lidl as well. As well as the standard shop, I'm always looking out for the reduced items for the freezer..
I avoid shopping at one of the Sainsburys stores unless it's an absolute necessity - the roof is low, it's crowded and oppressive, and I find it difficult to find things, never mind the bargains (I've never yet found the short date reduced section in the chill section!). The other two are great - light and airy with high ceilings and a bit of space, friendly and helpful staff, good layout, clearly marked reductions..
With Tesco, it's much the same - unfortunately the one I don't like shopping in is my local one (and the most recently built, but always somehow cluttered..)0 -
There are two Sainsbury's stores near where I live and the ranges and prices are different. They seem to price things according to the local competition.0
