For myself and family we find Sainsbury a lot more expensive than Tesco/Asda and quality no better than the rest.People posting positive posts for Sainsburys do not understand the price structuring of these supermarkets and probably have not shopped around for ages.
No, for me Sainsburys ends up around £5 cheaper per month than the next cheapest option on what I buy without adding my partners discount to the equation (not including my partners food which is also cheaper there). Now considering all I get at the moment is DLA and my partner doesn't earn a lot (although he does get paid more than minimum wage per hour) £5 a month is quite a bit of money to us. We do buy mostly own brand and basic brand items though or if cheaper products on offer.

By using mysupermarket.com I can always find out what is cheaper which I do. I don't shop at Tescos because for me the quality is not good enough for their value brand or own brand which is what I'd buy and ends up nearly £20 more expencive for me per month *. When it comes to ASDA it is nearly as good quality but is the one that is £5 more expencive each month for me.

As I've said before it depends on what people buy to what will work out best for them. For some it will be Tesco. For others it will be ASDA. For some of us it is Sainsburys but it doesn't mean we shop without thinking.

*discount not added in as would be even more :eek:. As it is I think the idea of over £4.50/wk more is way too much.

I like Sainsburys. I don't find them much different price wise to others, but our local Sainsburys is far nicer than any other supermarket locally.

  • I prefer sainsburys and find their range of items is far superior to any other supermarkets that are near to me. each to their own though, they dont always suit everyone.

Yes ... bit late to throw my hat into the ring, I know, BUT Sainsbury's Basics are a way superior to anything else on the market in this price range.
  • I split my shop between Asda and Sainsbury's. Asda is the cheapest supermarket (mass buying power etc etc). However I do get some things from Sainsbury's and these are pretty much all sainsbury's basics or own brand. The reason being they are as good as branded versions, better quality than the asda own brand and generally cheaper for me.

I always use a supermarket comparison site before shopping and usuallly find that Sainsburys is the only place I can get everything I want, and is usually cheaper. One or two items will be significantly cheaper elsewhere, but the total basket is usually cheaper at Sainsburys. However, if you eat a lot of branded convenience food, then Sainsburys is expensive.

I find Morissons to be the best balance between price and quality. I think Asda is the cheapest, but the quality of their food is pretty vile IMO.

I pop into Sainsbury's occasionally, usually for convenience. You just have to know what to avoid.

Id rather shop at sainsburys, morrisons or aldi/lidl so as not to line the pockets of the greedy tesco machine,
