ohhhhhhhhh so neither this wonderwoman you quote (never heard of her or this controlled crying thing as it happens) or you are actually parents??????? come back when you've had a bubs and share you expreience with us then. i don't and never have subscribed to text book methods or people who try to live by them. did cave men have text books to teach them how to raise a family????? no they didn't, and low and behold the human race survived, i wonder why???? :rolleyes:0 -

This is what I've been saying, there are some ill-informed opinions around. CC isn't about leaving a child in the middle of the room bawling their eyes out. It's mainly used at sleep times so they can learn how to settle themselves. I personally, don't use the system all the time, just with certain babies. There are other methods that are just as sucessful to help the baby learn to sleep.1 John 4: 7 & 80 -
well said hear hear crispy ambulance
dont mean to sound like a mad old hippy but each baby is different accept the diversity! each one of my kids is different when tired or if awake during the night. its only by being there and me meeting their needs not expecting them to meet mine that i know them so well and how to settle them there cannot be one method for all children!!!0 -

I am very disappointed in the tone of your post. 1) I didn't say that I didn't have children of my own, where did that come from? I'm trained and paid to look after other people's children, it's my profession 2) If you've never heard of CC then why are you commenting on it and actually making very hurtful comments towards people who are in favour of it?1 John 4: 7 & 80 -
how awful this has led to a bit of a slanging match..i've reported it to be removed as i feel some of these comments could cause offence and upset.Membre Of Teh Misspleing Culb0

I used CC once, then after 18 months of 3 HOURS MAX SLEEP A NIGHT!
Its not about leaving your kid to cry for hours on end, that is just rediculous.
I used CC the first time when taking DS dummy away at 5 months, I left him for 2 mins, went in and comforted him, then left him for 5 mins, went back in then left him again - he was fast asleep before the next ten mins were up.
I then tried it when trying to get DS out of drinking milk from his bottle to send him to sleep, I read the feber book which said to dilute the milk at first (DS was drinking it diluted to make it go further anyway) - he was drinking over 2 pints a night!!!
Anyway, it took about 2 nights and he has never had milk in a bottle since!
Had i known this at 3 months i could of had soooo much more sleep!!
A babay can go 12 hours at night without needing a feed from 3 months!
I am about to go for round 3 - Taking the bottle away comletely, i'm fed up with constantly washing sheets becuse his nappy has leaked in the night, which on some occasions wakes him up at 3am!
Also i want to start potty training soon, and wont be able to train him to do the nights if he's drinking through it!
I dont think anyone is suggesting leaving their children to cry for hours - if u read the book, this would become evident (How to solve your childs sleep problems')
It's ok to say, you have to fit around the baby but how can u possiby be the best mum you can when u have had no sleep - i've been there, you carry on for ages and ages then all of a sudden it hits you like a smack in the mouth!:j Baby boy Number 2, arrived 12th April 2009!:j0 -

It's a shame as this post could of been very useful for some mums out there, wish there was something like this when i needed it!
It's true thoght, if u dont know wat CC is all about, y bother posting, as its just spoilt it for us who genuinely know and want to know.
Thnx for starting the thread anyway xx:j Baby boy Number 2, arrived 12th April 2009!:j0 -
why do people need books to tell them how to raise their children??? surely instinct is what's needed, after all it's instinct that has ensured the survival of the human race? too many "pros" interfering and causing problems in my mind0
