Right, someone mentioned above they may not have given a receipt unless asked (personally I always gave receipts in those cases when I worked in retail), do you actually know whether or not your friend asked? Seeing she doesn't speak up, could it be the case she didn't?
I have explained during the earlier posts. She did not ask for a receipt originally, but returned to the store with myself with 30 mins to ask for one. The manager was involved and k new what we wanted, called another manager who both refused to provide a receipt (even though they verbally accepted the note had been taken)I get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!0 -
You should report the incident to the police. it's likely that the store will have cctv over the tills. It also sounds like there were plenty of witnesses. So there is proof of the activity taking place.
No company likes bad press either so definitely report it to the local paper. even the threat of it can make an unco-operative customer service person or store manager change their approach. If that doesn't work, ask a local reporter to come with you so they can see first hand the treatment they've given you.
good luck0 -
I think the managers were totally wrong in not giving a receipt. By not giving a receipt your friend could potentially argue that they intended to permanently deprive her of the note. If the note is genuine, that could amount to theft. If it is a fake, they are perfectly entitled to keep it of course!0

My point is, regardless of whether the note is fake or legal, it clearly won't end in her posession either way. If it's fake the bank destroys it, if it's legal the co-op get it back *(and won't pass it on as they don't have her details)*I get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. Was this something you were taught/informed of, or something you would of done through common sense?
Supermarket cashiers are paid pennies per hour and don't take responsibility for matters like these. Rightly so, this is not a dig at cashiers, they simply don't get paid to, so in op's friends case, I would say the cashier was in the right (not for the rudeness though), the managers were in the wrong. Going back to my original post, working for some of the largest catering & hospitality companies, what to do in this situation has never been highlighted in training courses or through conversation.
When faced with irate customers/people, a common theme is defence systems mode takes course and the reaction from the two managers from the coop was to attack rather then appreciate the situation the op's friend found herself in, which is bad customer service practice.
The coop is completely at fault and should now demonstrate their core customer service values for this incident.
Keep us updated on the coop’s reply.DMP Started 18 July 2011 :T - Could be finished July 2012 :jTotal Owed £5688 :mad:0 -
Get the Police involved, as far as I can see, this is theft, do this to enough people you could rake in a fortune. If the note is a fake, the Police can deal with the owner of it. I am wondering at what point they will simply "deny" taking the money.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

I worked in retail for ten years and yes stores do have an obligation to remove fake notes from circulation, but they must be passed to police, I had to remove a few notes from people and its not a nice feeling because the customer has become the victim of the counterfiters,
Also always check your notes given as change before leaving a store because if you suspect a note is fake you can ask for another Sadley the same cant be said for when you hand one over as payment,
We can not pass it back but However every time we have taken the time to show the customer how we can tell it is fake, we also take information from them about where the note was from before it came into their ownership it helps the police to track where they are being circulated the most, I remember one elderly lady had actually got hers at a building society and the police officer kindly had a word with them and got it replaced for her, However...
The Co-op has treated your friend with rudeness and in a dissgracefull manner, The whole situation was miss handled and I think that you should take it higher and I think a replacement £20 from the head office and a letter would go some way to appologise for the disgusting way she was treated, Push for it and dont back down, theres no publicity like bad puplicity and I think you have a right to this at the very least if they cant prove to you the note was fake.0 -
Thank you for the comments. I'm not planning on backing down on this one. Hopefully get some good news next week about a reply.I get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!0
