I'll have a similar issue gemmzie as I have a relatively small family but OH is both his parents' second marriage so has bros & sis & neices & nephs and his Dad is one of 4 brothers!!! Whilst on my side it's mum, dad, sis, nana, aunt & uncle & 2 cousins!! Don't even get me started on OH's counsins!!! luckily he doesn't really see/speak to a large part of his family but there will still be more of his side!!!

I'm glad I'm not the only one then catsy! I have a lot of extended family but even wedding party, parents, siblings and partners is 30 of us

  • We made the decision ages ago that the ceremony and breakfast will NOT have cousins invited. My mum has 7 siblings and my dad has 5 and they all have children and the majority of my cousins have children too. In fact, my mum's mum has a list of all the family and when OH's name went in there late last year he was the 88th name on the list.

so how many have you whittled it down to?
whats the family to friends ratio?
mines 42 family 26 friends for the ceremony/breakfast at the moment!
I am not bossy I just have better ideas:p
  • i would easily beat 88 memebers of family if i invited everyone!! Which thankfully i'm not, it does get really silly when such massive families are involved!

    88 is just my mum's side :o

We've cut it down to 60 guests in total; 30 for bride, 30 for groom. I'm only inviting aunts and uncles and hardly anyone on my dad's side as we don't really get on.

Of the 60 day guests, 10 or so are friends and 13 are immediate family / grandparents.

    Great thread :)

We're getting married in May next year.. although we've bought most bits and bobs anyway! I was just too excited to wait plus I'm trying to rationalise it by saying it spreads out the cost and allows me to find bargains on EBay :rotfl:

Just trying to find a good mobile hairdresser now, everyone seems to be sooo expensive

Also have a big surprise for the groom on the day which is killing me to keep quiet :D
