Not at all! My mum never checked on me, but it sounds lovely :)

Slightly different but my OH always says goodbye when he goes to work in the morning (really early), although I sort of half wake up I rarely wake up fully. BUT I always remember him giving me a kiss on the forehead every morning (i'm normally so tucked into my quilt thats all you can see of me) and it's a wonderful feeling :)

I have never checked on my kids ever, god I feel bad now, if they are sleep I leave them to it eek. I love my kids to bits, I just dont feel the need to see them sleeping.

I'm with you, except I don't feel bad about it! ;)

Since they began sleeping through around 3 months, I've only ever gone in if called, or if I haven't been around at their bedtime. Mine are 5 and 3.

Checking on them is great, not checking on them is great too. Neither is a sign of a caring/non caring parent.

I always check on my two. Watching them sleep is the reward I get for not strangling them during the day!
DS thinks he's too big for kisses now (he's 6) so it's the only time I can actually give him a kiss. I go in and tuck them in and give them a kiss. Then I go to bed.
DH always asks what I'm doing because he doesn't check them at night when I'm working.
It makes me feel happier and then I can sleep. It doesn't matter what time of night it is either! They do occasionally wake but generally go straight back to sleep. Last night when I tucked DS in, he sat up and said "Have I only just gone to bed" "Yes darling" (it was 1am!) "No I haven't, I've been here aaaaaages" I left the room to the sound of snoring!

I check on my 12yr old & 4yr old before i go to bed. I have to give them a kiss, make sure they're breathing and that the youngest is the right way up etc. I don't think i could sleep if i hadn't. Most of the time i have to turn the eldests light or tv off.

I check mine are breathing, covered up, not suffocated in pillows or teddies or cats and they are in their own beds!!
Getting to the age where "alone in their own beds" needs checking too, I guess! :rotfl:
It's not long until I'm 60. When I go down to visit my Mum, I'm more than capable of getting myself into bed, tucked in, snuggled down and happy.

Without fail, my mother sticks her head around the door and if I'm still awake, mutters something about my night light, the temperature, have I got a book to read ...

She's doing exactly the same as you are - checking her child is safe and well - and if at 80, it's right and proper for her to continue to do what she always has, and as you are yourself doing ...

Daft? No and even if it was, it gives you comfort and therefore, in my book, it's a wise thing to do!
Last time I stayed with my parents before my dad died, he got up to go to the loo in the middle of the night (in HIS opinion!) and told me off because I was still reading! Now it's just my mum, she tells me she doesn't want to see my light on if she has to get up in the night. But I've got a netbook and dongle now, so I can surf MSE without the lights on. :rotfl:

I checked on mine until they started sleeping with the doors shut, now I just peer through the keyhole to make sure lights are off when I go to bed, and pop in if lights are on.

DS3 had dozed off yesterday afternoon - he'd been away all weekend so probably not much sleep - and he STILL looks so cute when he's asleep. Didn't dare kiss him though, he tends to lash out ... He's nearly 18.

Mum and dad always checked on us - with me, it was cos I'd burrowed down to the bottom of the bed and needed freeing, or to move the book that had become my bedfriend.

Still do it now when I don't go up with OH, Dad'll come and have a natter before going to bed.
