I thought I'd just pop by and say hello:hello:
I have spent most of the morning filling in an application formIts one job that I really really hate. I know I'll never get a job if I don't do it but I still don't like them.
I decided to try and wipe our my banana glut yesterday (but then found that the freezer still doesn't have much space in it) so just ended up making 2 small banana and raisin cakes. They are so heavy:eek: I really don't know what I did wrong but they taste OK and no cake ever lasts long in our house.
I try to stick to natural remedies for colds Elsie ( brandy and lemon with hot water and sugar - thats my excuse anyway):rotfl:I hope you are on the mend soon.
Its dull and yucky here so I am going to try and finish my book this afternoon.
Have a lovely day everyone
Cuddles:)
Glad to see you Cuddles.
I might try your remedy this afternoon...do you think I might need a couple or even 3....purely for medicinal purposes.!!
Banana and raisin cakes sound nice, especially if you can use banana's that are a bit soft. Might have to have the recipe for those too please. OMG I will never get slim if this continues, I must have put a pound on just by reading these posts this morning.:rotfl::rotfl:
Forgot to say, good luck on the job application.......I don't mind doing them, but its so annoying when you don't get a reply of any kind. So Rude.

hi everyone great thread. We are a couple I'm 60 just and my oh is 57 and we're here because I tended to say we cant really afford it but what the hell we'll do it anyway. I deal with all the bills and things, so its all my fault.
I had my LBM last year when my husband gave up work to look after me full time. (I have mobillity problems) What came in never covered what was going out and I must admit we did tend to live on the credit cards a little too much. Holidays, clothes in wardrobes still with tags etc.
Got in touch with CCCS who were helpful but really unable to help with DMPs etc. because we have somethin called negative income. We had to write to the companies ourselves and luckily they eventually ceased with the interest and adding on unpaid installments. Between them though they added another £2000 to the total but now we pay £1 per month off each of our bills officially. I do pay extra, as much as we can afford, each month brcause I know that they'll never be paid otherwise. At the beginning of the year we owed 4 crditors £17500. 2 for virgin, credit card at TSB and a loan to TSB. At the moment we aren't having any trouble with TSB they have sent us payment books and have eventually after many letters stopped the interest.
Virgin to whom my husband owed £4950 phoned out of the blue and asked if it was possible to raise/borrow from family anybody some money and pay a part figure as a settlement. We have an overdraft on our bank card asked what figure they were thinking of. They suggested £1600, we said the most we could come up with was a £1000 which they accepted. So now we are busy trying to live as carefully as possible, something we should have done years ago, to get the OD down.Bythe end of May we should have done it. So weve knocked a chunk off what we owed and we'll see whether we can do it with our other creditors and maybe this time next year well be debt free. I'm not saying that its a good thing that has happend but if we paid at a £1 per month it would take for eternity for anybody to get paid. As the lady from Virgin said, the time was coming when they were going to have to sell our debt on to a debt recovery agency with all the hassle that would entail and this way they got more from us so I suppose its worked to both our advantages. When we are debt free we aren't going to get into this situation again. Its hard not flashing the card when you see something you like but there again I cant justify 64 unworn articles of clothing so I think I'll have to join the shopoholics thread as well.
Financially things have got a little better because my pension has finally arrived and with careful planning and hunting on the internet we should still be able to afford a holiday abroad, but not this year and probably not next. It'll be nice though to know we haven't got any debts.0 -
Hi laineygirl
Well done for posting, you are more than welcome to join us oldies.! We're a bit barmy, but we all have one aim, and that's to try to get rid of the debt before we reach retirement, some of the members have already reached that stage, and are still dealing with it.Don't beat yourself up about the debt, you are not the only ones who have used the cards when we knew that really we couldn't afford it, and the wise thing to do was not spend.! Thought we were supposed to get wiser as we got older.!!
I know what you mean about clothes with tags on still in the wardrobe, have you considered selling some on ebay,? I'm doing just that at the moment, it doesn't give a great deal back, but it clears the drawers and wardrobes and puts a bit of money back into the bank.
We don't have any credit cards now, and when I go shopping I use cash and not my debit card, because I tend to forget when I've used it.
What a feeling it will be when you are debt free and the next 12 months will fly by. We're hoping to be debt free by the end of next year.:T
Would you like to join our thread, if so you will be number 16, (if not let me know and I'll take you off) Call in anytime and have a chat, and a virtual cup of coffee,:coffee: there is usually someone around at various times of the day. It's just nice to have someone of our own age group to chat to.

This is a great thread as we're all that bit older, and have taken a while to gain the financial wisdom, but most of us have it now, so we will get rid of the pesky debtsMore than Two Years in

Hi Lainygirl
Welcome to the asylum.:grouphug: We are all in the same boat so whether you feel sad, grizzly or just want a chat theres usually someone nearby.:coffee:
I've finished my book so I am back now. Its left me feeling all virtuous cos the central heating timer just came on and I've turned it straight back off (its a bit chilly but not enough for that and I've got my trusty wooly blankie if it gets too cold) The general message from the book seemed to be to trade off and make do (so if you know you need to take a long journey then walk as much as poss beforehand to offset the petrol or if you know you eat meat try different cuts so that the whole animal will get used etc) Its common sense really.
Elsie the banana and raisin bread was from The Goode Kitchen by Shirley Good but I used marmalade instead of apricot jam and added raisins for extra fruit (they shouldn't have been there) it should have just been banana bread. She used walnuts but I hadn't got any of them either. I don't know whether I am allowed to put someone elses recipes on here but if you google shirley goode you might be able to track it down online if not let me know. As for the brandy well you just have to do what makes you better don't you :rotfl:
Anyway I'd better go
Bye for now

Thanks cuddles,
I'll google that in a minute, it sounds delicious. My heating is still off too, although by about 6 I will probably turn it on for an hour or so. My OH also have a woolley blanket to put around our legs if we get cold. OMG, years ago I would have burst out laughing if anyone had suggested that to me.!! Now I think " that's a good idea "!!:o

Hi again Elsie
I've even got OH round to putting his feet under a nice warm blankie (the rest of him doesn't get cold it must be an age thing):rotfl:
Its funny how you come round to the warm blankie when its a choice between heat or money to spend

PDD,
Still not feeling too good, but I think I will have to go to work tomorrow. If I don't go, I don't get paid and that means I will be £60 short at the end of April for 2 days off sick. That is quite a bit and it will make things very tight .:( So I will be dosing myself up and having an early night.
On a good note,:D I have 4 bids on my ebay items, so far that is £30 and about 8 items finish about 3pm tomorrow. Hopefully, they will go up, some of them are evening dresses that I paid quite a bit for when I had money....or should I say when I had a credit card.!!!:o
