Just seen this thread am not an 'old geezer' or gal but was just wishing you guys best of luck....

Was just wondering if you can be on a DMP and have a good pension when you retire or will it just be smallish pension? I feel for you guys as normally last thing yo uwanna do when retiring wor run to retirement is to pay off debt.. but save money for when you aint working.

Was just thinking how shocking it be if your DMP limited how much you could put into pensions for example

My OH is still paying into a company pension and has been in it for the past 20 years, plus he has a forces pension, so all in all once the debts have gone we should be ok. Still want time after debts are paid to be able to get savings together!! Just hoping we stay in good health until then.

thanks elsie, hope cold has got better,(doesnt mean you cant have a toddy tonight to keep it away) neas, still paying debts now, but once repayments end we should be ok.Downsizing not an option as work underway to alter house so that oh can be looked after here. Have got 2 small pensions which I can acess at 65, should make the difference. Thanks for concern, be clever and dont let this happen to you.

    Good start to my DMP.
2 creditors have agreed to the sums and agreed to freeze all charges.
Thought these 2 would be the awkward ones.
    There both MBNA cards.

    Well done,:T

You have been very lucky there.....we have 4 creditors who are still charging interest, even after 2 years.!

    Enjoy:beer:

  • Elsie, how does that work? If they are still charging interest is your debt just getting bigger and bigger?

Elsie, which ones are they? Egg still charging me interest and late charges on 2 cards and loan, which amount to more than payment to them. Can't believe how short-sighted some of creditors are - don't they realise debt will be paid off sooner if interest frozen. MBNA were one of the first to accept which amazed me as I'd heard they used to be real horrors. Anyway nighty night folks

No its not getting bigger, but its reducing slowly. We pay Lloyds £300 a month and thy are charging £235 interest.!! We have done this for over 2 years and they won't reduce it at all.!!
