Hi Moo
What color silkies have you got/going to get?
I love silkies they are great broody hens.
At the moment we have a white female, a white male, a blue female, a black female (3 black male's killed by fox last year) and a gold female.
Plus we have 'gold tops' - not sure if that is the official name but it is basically a laying hen crossed with a silkie which produces a gorgeous brownie/gold hen who are also very broody. Plus they have the very cool hairstyle!!
Hope they settle in well

Stayed up far far too late on Friday which left me feeling really tired on Saturday, never the best way to be when you have a house full of relatives. Ended up BBQing despite the rain. Ate far more than is good for me but had a v. pleasant day. Taking OHs bro shopping to the outlet village today. Planning to be there before it opens as it will be worse than visiting the bowels of hell. Vaguely wondering if we can combine it with a visit to the kids viewing at the on-site cinema which will at least guarantee a parking space. Problem is we'd need to leave in about 30 minutes and most of the house is still asleep. I'm loathe to disturb the peace.
New chooks have settled in brilliantly and are already putting themselves upstairs to bed. having to treat them for a variety of minor ailments from paper thin shells to yellow foamy squits and the more interesting bald bottoms caused by several types of parasite, was expecting this and more hence the low price and the need for quarantine. They're not unhealthy they're just not in the sort of condition I'd like them to be in when I mix them with my girls. Have liberally dusted the nest box with delouser to gurantee it makes contact with the bits in question for as long as possible. Its also less stressful for them than being turned upside down and powdered. For all that each of the girls laid an egg yesterday.
Silkies are scheduled to arrive on trip no. 3. Theres definately a white one and several golds although they're not old enough to sex and at this stage I wouldn't even like to guess how many are female. Next project is to work on rehoming a very friendly male Buff Orpington (due to arrive sometime next week). Hes lovely but too big for our houses, Theres no way he'll fit up the ramps which are all underneath the houses a bit like loft ladders. Plan B involves coq-au-vin.
Spent a scary three figured amount at the supermarket on Thursday in anticipation of a deluge of guests over the weekend. Seem to be coping OK with only shopping every other week and then picking up milk and bits in between. The local co-ops whoopsie section is fast becomiing my favourite place. Bargain of the week was ground almonds reduced from £2.39 to 65p. Picked up 3 bags which should see me well into Christmas cake season.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -
Had a fab and very laid back day with OHs bro. Spent far too much at the outlet village which has seriously depleted my x-mas voucher stash but we left with two very happy small children, a stack of muchly reduced books (for them not me) and two pairs of boots which were greatly needed as the sole in my old pair split earlier in the week. Boots were reduced from £100 and £90 to £40 each on a buy 1 get 1 1/2 price offer. Hopefully I won't need to buy shoes again for another year.
OH decided it would be a great night to get well and truly blotto and laid into his bro verbally about a hundred and one irrelevant things, shouting to get his point across should anyone dare disagree with him. Made the mistake of going to bed before OH was asleep and endured another rant about all my failings as a wife and how touching me no longer turns him on. Aparently he'd rather watch adult films which at this particular point in time suits me just fine. Pointing out he was embarassing his brother by puting his hands in my underwear in front of him did not go down at all well. Restrained myself from telling him it makes me feel like a cheap tart. Theres nothing romantic or even nice about it. Culmination of the nights rant was a complaint that he couldn't sleep on the sofa because his bro. was watching tv followed by his usual why don't I just f off tirade which is very tempting apart from the logistics of it all.
Something needs to happen though as (for the illionth time) I've really and truly had enough of his petulant childish attitude. Will he ever realise that our problems are all of his own doing? I don't want him to touch me because he mauls me like a piece of meat. I don't want to spend time with him after hes been drinking because he argues about everything and goes out of his way to criticise me. Mostly though I don't want to leave him with the DDs. Back to catch 22. Can't afford to move. Don't want to stay, not once hes been drinking. Whilst hes sober and keeps his hands to himself hes lovely. Its the rest of the time thats the problem.
Ah pants.
Plans for the day involve remembering to take OHs bro to the station at lunchtime, stripping the boys toy of anything that isn't nailed down before it goes into the garage for several Ks worth of work and phoning the other boy to make sure hes paying for it as once thats done OHs friend is retaking sole ownership of it, or at least he should be. After that its laundry, more laundry and shed loads of housework but before then I'm going to go and do a spot of therapeutic weeding in chicken land in the hopes of getting my head straight before OHs bro wakes up.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -
Oh Moo, there's nothing I can say really.
Bear in mind that while moving out would be hard emotionally/financially, you have to consider the impact that hearing this is having on the DDs. Even if they're only hearing bits and pieces of the arguments, you can't allow them to hear their father speaking to you like that. It will do them no end of harm in the long run.
Is there anyone you can escape to with the DDs for a weekend to get your head together? Edinburgh is a long way away but you would be welcome to bunk down here (Although the cats sleep on the heads of new arrivals) on the sofa if ever you found yourself stuck.
Please know that although we are faceless internet people we love you and care about you. Feel free to PM if you need anything.
Xx

Oh Moo I am so sorry to hear this and from reading your diary it seems to be getting more common. I agree with FF this has to be damaging to the girls I don't know what to suggest I couldn't put up with being treated like this you and the girls deserve better.
Please do something don't carry on like this you owe it to yourself and the girls.
Big hugs to you.

Hi Moo
I remember the last time some thing similar happened. After that occasion did you manage to discuss it or was it brushed under the carpet?
I also thought he had stopped drinking - or is it now more occasional instead of every day?
Moo - please think about this situation and do what you think is best, do not worry about the DD's, they will adapt to any changes.
If you decide to leave and don't have a home for the chooks I am willing to foster them for however long it takes to get settled.

Thanks guys!
Have done nothing but think recently and I keep reaching the same conclusion.... so with no further ado I give you property !!!!!! moo style... at present I have a shortlist of one based upon the fact that its not on the edge of a shanty town or a huge housing estate (I don't do people), the neighbours speak English and Welsh, mostly Welsh, but nowheres gonna be perfect. It has a huge garden and tons of natural light and is practically perfect in everyway. Of course there are a few negatives in that its lacking in bedrooms and the roof is a bit suspect and of course its way out of my price range but then everything that isn't a glorified caravan is out of my price range. A gals gotta start somewhere..... hovel no. 1. Depressing innit.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500
