Drum roll please..... I have completely decrapped the welsh dresser. Gone is the od toy OH was given for x-mas 2 years ago and a dozen or so outgrown jigsaw puzzles - seems the key was in pointing out to DD2 that there wouldn't be any space for birthday pressies. Unfortunately I've since had to dust and rather more worryingly I'm !!!!!!ed if we have a power cut any time soon as we no longer have any skinny candlestick holders but I can always improvise with empty wine bottles, at least theres an abundance of those about. Have a huge pile of tat to e-bay which rather annoyingly I didn't get round to doing yesterday. Spent the afternoon watching Toy Story 3 which was wasted on the DDs as they've not seen either of the other films.
Spent a fun filled hour attempting to reach the bottom of the ironing pile whilst the DDs did their homework. DD2 seems to get far more than DD1, fortunately shes quite happy doing it unlike her elder sibling.
Must remember to change my broadband paymet from card to direct debit as the barstewards are charging £1 a month for any method which isn't a DD. Also need to visit a shop of some description as we've hit crisis point and are on the verge of running out of instant coffee and loo roll. Would also be wise to bung some go-go juice in the car which has v. efficiently coverd 1000 miles on the last £100. Looks like being quite a spendy day. Will be aprking in the farthest corner of the carpark well away from everyone else to avoid damage from other peoples car doors as its ridiculously windy again.
OH is now on the hunt for a jawed allligator saw as the demise of three further trees is imminent but because of their location we're going to have to climb them to remove the upper limbs. Whilst I'm quite happy in a harness up a tree adding a huge chainsaw to that is a little unnerving and doing it by hand is so tediously slow its untrue. Hoping they won't show any further sign of movement until OH starts his run of days off but I have a feeling the constant deluge of water and the subsequent howling gales won't let up and I'll be giving them monster haircuts whether I like it or not. Ah country living. Its non-stop fun!Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -
I wouldn't worry about Ebay too much - they seem to be doing Free Listing every second weekend at the moment. I have 25 items listed at the moment, a new record for me0

Oooh Scoobs..... what an offer although trainees are quite possibly a bit too young. Drooling over something half my age seems a tad immoral - seems there are perks to being agnostic after all. Will do a head count when I get into work. I can think of a fair few single ladies (and quite a few married ones too) whose week would be muchly improved with the addition of neither an officer nor a gentleman in their lives for the short space of time it takes for the adjutant to notice that his parade ground is a wee bit empty. A couple of dozen should suffice. Will have to see if I can persuade schools coach driver to make a bit of a detour and kill a couple of hours when he deposits the brats at the panto. I forsee a P45 as a christmas bonus if I pulled that sort of stunt. Still v. tempting. Me thinks you need to post the view from your office window.
Most of the trainees are mid to late 20's (they have to be no older than 28 when they leave here for their regts), plus as a bonus at this time of year they spend alot of time on exersize so noone would notice one or two missing from each Plt. As for my office window...I don't have one - I think they realised I'd get no work done if I could stare out of the window, and even if I did I'd get to watch the back wall of the stables and side wall of the Guardroom across the carpark. It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

I have had the day from hell. By 7:45 I'd abandoned all hope of doing any actual work yesterday and commenced removing 2" of standing water from a classroom floor before it decided to cascade over the door lip and flood the adjacent classroom. Relocated the contents of the classroom to the portarooms across the playground much to the disgust of playgroup who usually have the 2 rooms to themselves. I then proceeded to commit the heinous crime of moving the furniture. Yes really. Which resulted in three people hammering on the bosses door to complain. Fortunately he smiled nicely, rolled up his sleves and came to help bringing more furniture with him. Managed to move enough stuff to wedge 30 children in the room to constant reminders that "we usually put the sandpit there at lunchtime". Meh.
Amazingly got the drain guys out before lunch expecting miracles or at least something more than I'd already done. Apparently the phrase "the manholes are all clear, there must be a blockage in the pipe" translates into manspeak as "please lift all the manhole covers prior to telling the bimbo that theres a blockage in the pipe - love". They're coming back this morning to chop a hole in the playground, dig about underground and remove a chunk of pipe in the hopes of removing the blockage since the builders decided not to put any rodding points or manholes in a useable location. Meanwhile room continued to flood all day so spent most of the day sucing up water. Oh joy.
Managed to get tons done here too. Master boudoir and landing are tidy and vacuumed. Ironing was finished but have since added more to the chair. Even persuaded OH to get the essential bits of shopping as he was going to the supermarket anyway. Would almost go as far as claiming it had been a productive day but then I spent the evening watching American Chopper and some really irritatingly repetative Hot Rod thing which wasn't content with spending the chucnk of time between ad breaks doing recaps of the previous 10 minutes but also did flash forwards of the next 10 minutes. Even Ice Road Truckers wasn't that bad. Would rather have been reading the last couple of chapters of my attrociously bad book but figured I needed to spend time with OH. Rather annoyingly this was taken to mean I was feeling horny and so a mere two afters after I'd fallen asleep he appeared and was v. grumpy to find me in full blown ice maiden mode. The geriatric old dear woke me up two hours later to go for a wander in the garden so am now feeling v. knackered indeed. In fact could almost be tempted to come home from school and go back to bed for a couple of hours in the hopes of feeling human. Although I object to spending my daylight hours asleep because things prevent me doing it at night.
Was hoping to continue tidying up and de junking the place whilst I'm on a roll. Can't see me staying awake long enough though.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -
Decided not to spend yesterday asleep which is probably just as well since I managed an undisturbed 8 hours last night for the first time in weeks. Had the most bizarre dream about a vet named Bede, bizarre because I don't know anyone named Bede. Still at least I was dreaming pleasant things.
Did minimal amounts of housework and then ventured into the civilised world to fill the car with go-go juice. Almost £60 later the car claims I have 700 miles of motoring to do before my next fill.
Managed to avoid visiting La Senza and partaking of their two pairs of PJs for £20 offer, mostly because I'm undecided between the cow, sheep and dog prints. The background colours are truly hideous but ridiculous enough to pass as essential winter evening wear.
Did however get suckered into the Sainsburys Call of Duty promotion only to find that not only is the PC game not in the offer but my local store doesn't stock them anyway. Went further afield only to find that the game won't run on OHs pc anyway. Did suggest that he considers buying an X-box but hes hellbent on upgrading the PC estimating this to be about £300 of internal gubbins although then he diverted to new everything so that the DDs can have his current PC which means its more likely to cost around £600 as he'll want a new flatscreen monitor and a keyboard and speakers .... £800 is probably more realistic which is preceisely why an X-box or even a PS3 would be so much cheaper. Had to stop myself laughing out loud when he said he didn't think he'd play games on an X-box because he doesn't like the controller design. Hopefully he'll wait for someone from work to buy the PC game and then borrow it to see if it does run on the existing PC before forking out a small fortune.
Lifes never simple.
Meanwhile my flooded classroom is no longer flooded. Two v. v. v. good looking guys appeared, dug holes, replaced broken pipes and left. General consensus is the next time we have a drainage problem it needs to be in the summer because the speactacle would have been so much more fun had the chaps in question been shirtless. You'd be amazed how many class teachers suddenly felt the need to do things outside whilst they were there.
Plans for the day involve avoiding spending any money at all, much tidying up *again*, even more chucking out and a v. v. long walk with the hairballs in the woods since it looks like being a nice day.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -
One of the few good things about Mr Fresian not working is that when he mutters about upgrading the PC I can just go "yes dear" and continue on with my budgeteering.
If he had his way we would spend another £500 minimum on the confounded thing and this is essential to get the full performance out of it.
The most advanced game I play on it is Farmville, so he can whistle for it0 -
Mmmm however last time Call of Duty was released the PC wasn't up to it and we ended up with a new graphics card and a bigger hard drive and more memory. This time next year when the next one is realeased and is even better I forsee having exactly the same problems. A proper game playing machine seems so much simpler but then I don't have bollox for brains.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500

Gave in and checked my bank account. T'wasn't as bad as I'd feared. Managed to stay in the black by a whole £4 and then Child Benefit showed up and made it look rather healthy for the week before payday. May well be getting the hang of this money juggling malarky ... well apart from the odd 20K debt that is. At least I'm starting to feel like I've got the hang of the general day to day stuff.
Plans for today involve avoiding any completely pointless arguements with OH which seem to be getting far too frequent and over stuff that happened several years ago. Feel like I'm flogging a dead horse.
Negativity over.
Onto more positive thoughts.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -
Feeling much more positive this morning. OH spent the night drinking coke which meant I got an undisturbed night and feel vaguely human this morning.
Have been offered an increase in my hours at work by a whole 60 minutes a week downside is it means I'll have to stay late one night to lock up after the new rentals but since they are offereing an activity that the DDs want to try I'll give it a whiz until the end of term and then see what happens. Can't say I was overly impressed at the demo evening not entirely sure watching a 3 year old kick box is quite what the other parents expected. Unfortunately they hi-yahed their way through various spinning kicks and shattered several bits of wood in the process so the DDs are most determined to go. Have agreed that we'll give it a trial run until the end of term at which point if they continue we have to fork out £80 for insurance as well as £30 or so each in clothing and the £4 a week fees. Am hoping that they'll get bored of it long before then. I on the other hand could get to enjoy it although it would probably aggravate far too many old injuries to be a sensible move. May well seek out a dance based jiggy aerobics class.
OHs new wireless security camera turned up yesterday minus its power supply which the seller had forgotten to include. Thats now on its way so he'll have to wait until Saturday to see if it works. Meanwhile the co-owner of the toy landie is due this weekend and in theory the toy landie is being relocated down south which will make it much easier to get on and off the drive without risk of hitting a passing tractor or in the case of yesterday morning a stray cow.
Took the four legged fiend to puppy school and was complimented on her behaviour minutes before I landed flat on my back in the middle of the arena covered in slobber. Did have a v. nice slab of chocolate cake afterwards though.
Plans for today involve damage limitation after yet another howling gale. Have lost further tree limbs. Can't see enough to know whether any of the remaining dubious looking trees are leaning further than they did yesterday. I forsee a long weekend of tree pruning ahead.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -
Hi Moo
Just caught up with your thread, still full of antics I see!!!
I am very concerned about your trees, how close are they to the house? I am hoping they are far away otherwise your house might be squished - you seem unconcerned so I am assuming everything is fine!!! :rotfl:
Now I have a serious question - how can I make mince pies without the horrible insides?
For as long as I can remember I have only eaten the pastry of mince pies and not the middle. I don't mind the 'sauce' but I hate all the chunky bits.
Now how can I just make the 'sauce' so I don't have to keep scooping out the innards when in the company of people who can eat a mince pie normally :rotfl:
Thanks muchly Delia/Nigella etc
