I've just thought, maybe I've got another cold as a subconscious desire for the michaels remedy....
The great excitment i my life is I've hired a rug doctor for tomorrow. I've never used one but I'm just feeling yuck about other people's carpets ATM. I know I won;t get them looking good, (they range from quite smart to ''was pink but has faded to cream'' and '' was brown but has faded to beige and has palm leaves on'') but at least they might feel better and smell better. Not that I can smell anything ATM. I'm such a grumbler ATM.0 -

There are loads of nasty viruses going round here. DS has been off school all week, and by the looks of him he won't be going back tomorrow either. Round here there are at least two doing the rounds - a flu one with sneezes/cough/temperature and a sicky one with D&V.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

Poor little chap. I hope he feels better for the weekend. Being ill when you are little can feel endless and totally sapping. Take care of yourself too...hope you have dodged them!0 -
The main thing with the Rug Doctor is not to let the carpet get too wet. I wasn't assigned this job when we moved in, but the person who was, made a pig's ear of it. I'm sure aving soggy carpet for days on isn't the idea.
Also, the RD, though it collected a hell of a lot of muck, still didn't cure the smell on two of the carpets. In the end, we used them as weed suppressors in the garden. It was a huge shame, because the hallway one was much better quality than the polywallymide thing we replaced it with.
Everything here is make do and mend until the architect has spoken.0 -
Carpets are quite evil. I'll prefer to have solid floors in my next house - and use an assortment of cheery rugs to create warmth and a cosy feel.0

OK, thanks for the warning....if its heavy machine maybe I should let DH do it and wait so as not linger....I guess quicker equals drier. And also I'll stick the heating on to help dry us out.
I know what you mean about the architet, lol. feels too swanky to me to have ''my architect'' but nevertheless we do, and they are visiting soon to make our 20 year plan.
Fwiw we knew we had a good fit when the people understood we are not borrowing more than we have to to do it all by Christmas/wedding anniversary whatever, Grand Designs style to impress our friends, but rather would be doing it piecemeal in order of priority as we can afford it, or not afford not to do it.0 -
I would love to have the chance to come and make you feel better LIR but I'm not sure I would be posh enough for you...
I told my architect exactly what the extension should look like and after a couple of tries he got it right, planning decision due by the 21st so everyone please keep fingers crossed. Next problem is to convince the builders to do the job in two parts - first part all outside until knock through between old and new and then remodeling of existing can wait till I feel a bit braver to face the disruption.
Floors will be hardwood downstairs except for ceramics in entrance hall. I would like to have a feature open tread staircase but I'm not sure we could do without the under stairs storage, despite planning to more than double the floor space there never seems to be enough room for junk.
We have been very lucky on the sniffles front this year - last few days I have felt like I might be getting a cold but so far it hasn't come on - last year the kids seemed to bring home a new one every other week and trying to catch their v in a bowl whilst simultaneously doing the same for yourself has got to be one of life's worst experiences.
I miss Carol, just because I often disagreed with her didn't mean I valued her contribution any less than anyone else's, I fear the personal attacks have made her decide it isn't worth itI think....0 -
Evening all... I don't know how many of you are interested in the space programme, but here's a fun little diversion for anyone who has fancied travelling on the Space Shuttle (ages 13 and over only):

1. fingers crossed for all things planning related.
2. I'm sure you'd be just fine for me, rofl (I can see why I et the ''posh'' thing, though it sits uncomfortably but why people would think I ''want'' posh is less clear...before marriage I was a ''dater'' on meritocratic basis), but DH is home tomorrow and he'll be perfect, so that's that
3. I agree, carolt seems to get more flak than most...although not all people. I didn;t really understand why she more than the rest of we disagreeables got it so particularly viscously: the nature of attacks on her was often particular, very personal, very nasty. I have often felt extreme distaste for the way she was ''tackled'' whether or not I agreed with her argument or occasionally her way of arguing. Sometimes the way she was ''tackled'' meant that I felt I couldn't debate with her in a different way for fear of adding fuel to a fire.0 -
I've been kinda busy ... in a kinda working on stuff way. It's all so laid back when you scribble stuff for cash that you don't notice hours/days passing. Anyway, I've got a new section up and running on my next site, this site's going to be a monster (in effort/number of pages, not necessarily in income) and it'll take about 2 years to complete, if there is ever such a thing as complete.
It's a town-based one, so specifically related to one town. So that gets big .... what's there, what's that, what's to do, where are the jobs, where can you live, news, stuff .... it all needs putting in, character by character. So I am doing it.
Today was to try, again, to tackle the events issue. Getting events listed is always an issue because there are so many dozens of ways that could look and work on your page, but I think now I've got an events calendar that's actually working the way I want (almost). Great ... so then you have to research the events, and then find the locations/postcodes and enter the locations, then the event.... and after about 6 you go crazy and break off ... so that's why I'm here.
Looking at the clock I've just spent 6 hours doing events, from starting to find solutions, to ending up with 6 on my site, with google maps generated and a good old disclaimer written (No, it's not my fault you booked an entire family holiday for 14 people to arrive on that date so you could see the boat race ... and it was cancelled). Although there's still one or two tweaks required.0
