You must be in some eye of the storm. Its a lot warmer today, but doesn't feel it. nippy wind, wet, rain, drizzle and some more wind and greyness. Used the rain to help me do some sweeping outside.

No, it cleared up quite quickly, but we were already programmed to do a Big Shop, so that's what happened.

Freezer full, logs delivered and materials bought, so I shall be marooned here for another couple of weeks now.....or until one of us cracks and decides they must have another pie from the butcher in the wee village across the river! (Probably Friday :rotfl:)

Ha, ha, ha, no definitely not. They are all countries that fascinate me. I would love to go to Iran on holiday as I find the strange dichotomy between the Persian and Islamic culture fascinating, but go there at the moment, no way! Same thing N Korea. I've been to Russia though and find it fascinating.

I have another book on my "to read" list that you might find suitable. If not, there's a series of podcasts to listen to, that's this book:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/History-World-100-Objects/dp/1846144132/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1290030752&sr=8-1
I've ordered it from the library, but there's a long waiting list. I'll probably end up getting it about next February.

I actually picked that very book up in a bookshop the other day Viva.:)

I'm still umming & ah-ing about what to read next.

Excellent sounding report from the school Sue.:T

I do love davesnaves little anecdotes. They always make me chuckle!

lir/tomterm8 I think that the colds/viruses which are going round are a little more hardy this year, & we think they've gone, but they haven't quite, & then they manifest themselves in slightly different ways (eg start off by being head colds, but as you start getting over that & syptoms fade, they become chesty coughs).

Anyone know if they're forecasting a super cold winter with loadsa snow? All the councils round here have bought extra grit, so no doubt it'll be a washout & the salt won't be needed & we can all grumble that they've wasted all that money on too much salt...
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

Oh, & whilst talking of those missing in action, anyone heard anything about Pobby recently? Pobby was another poster who I always felt contributed something good to the forum.

I looked pobby up the other day as I was also thinking of him. He did come on the forum and thank some posts a couple of months back so I posted at the time on this thread that I hoped he was ok as I know he hadn't been well earlier in the year. When I looked, he hadn't been on since September. I hope that he is now feeling better and will be back on soon.

Tbh I know that fora are transient and therefore people may choose to stop by again, but it does concern me if I know that they weren't well.

There are some I'd really feel the poorer for not communicating with ever again though....I hope everyone whose gone is gone for good life fulfilling reasons.

I agree lir. Carolt has been gone nearly a month. I hope she comes back soon, we may need her to start a new thread! Mind you, you turn round one day and all of a sudden NDG is back, so there is hope that your old faves will stop by again.

Half the time I've no idea who I am talking to. When people get PPR'd and have sockies.... I have absolutely NO idea whatsoever who is who or even how many of them there are.

Mewbie, for example .... could be one of you guys - I HAVE NO IDEA!

Nor me Pastures. When people say knowledgeably "Well X person is actually Y person" I have no idea what they are talking about. Ever. I don't think I've ever suspected that someone was someone else, with the exception perhaps of Exocet. If you're PPR'd (heaven forbid) and don't come back as Pastures_New, I'll be clueless.

I think when people say X is also Y, they are only stating a belief. Rare there is proof.

However Sibley made an error the other day by replying using another ID. Blacklight took advantage of my pointing it out to call me thick (because most of my views are the opposite to their views) as though it is/was obvious. However, this was proof that the 2 ID's are the same, & without proof, you only have suspicion.

Proof brings certainty. Prior to that, it is only a belief.
