Take care of yourself, Sue. We don't want you falling asleep at the wheel.
    Glad your tutor was understanding.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Absolutely amazing news......dad looks like he is coming home today! We're gobsmacked, the nursing staff are amazed and the consultant can't quite believe it...to think that Monday morning he was completely paralysed on the left side, was incontinent, barely able to talk (because of the mechanics of the face paralysis) and not quite with it to today where he is walking normally (well for him, he was already disabled on the right leg), fully continent and talking completely normally it really is amazing.

The staff have said they have never seen a recovery like it, especially from the size of the clot and the large area it covered at the very least, they expected him to have significant disability due to the size and severity of the stroke, to be honest, it feels like my birthday has come 3 days early.

That clot busting drug is truly amazing when it works, it only works on 1 in 3 people who meet the criteria and it appears my dad was the one in 3 people it does work on...couple that with the quick response of my mum in calling 999 because of the adverts on television outlining what to look out for.

Truly, truly gobsmacked and so happy here now.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

    That is really something!

    So glad to hear this!

If I may be so bold, make sure you look after yourself at this time too Sue. You have a lot on, your course, children (who I am sure are being most supportive to you at this time), your mom & dad. Make sure you have time for yourself, to rest & the like. It is important to take care of yourself, as if you aren't well, you won't be able to support those around you.

Also, make sure with the hospital that your dad is 100% ok to leave.
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

    Hi Sue,

Fantastic to hear news of your Dad. He will be happier to be at home too, no doubt, it is a much less stressful place than a hospital and he'll probably sleep and eat better. You're a truly amazing woman. Good luck with everything and make sure you get plenty of sleep!

Change of subject (apologies), but wondered if anyone caught 'Blood, Sweat and Luxuries' on BBC3 last night. It was the first in a series, about the production of gemstones and what people have to do to earn next to nothing to get luxury goods to the markets of Europe. Very interesting and worth watching if its on iPlayer. Next week is about leather goods production and future issues will also look at coffee and silicone chips.

The things I'm told that have been found used as stuffing in the panels of saddles makes my stomach turn.....but the human aspect makes much better tv.

I did see most of this.

I have to say that the 6 characters they have chosen to go on this mission didn't endear themselves to me. I mean, the socialite who doesn't work, has never had to work, but said "it's ok cos I value things". It isn't just the benefits culture who are workshy & lazy.

I found it amazing that after 1 days work 50% of them dropped out of returning to work the next day.

I assume they've been selected to get this type of response.

One or 2 of them seem a little more human. Time will tell.

An interesting series/concept, however it is on too late on BBC3 to catch the required audience I feel.

Nota bene: today on of the cats found a long lost and very beloved toy. Said toy is a small teddy on a string on a stick...for any one who knows what I mean by ''da bird'' its like that with a teddy instead of feathers.

So overjoyed is she at this discovery she has been carrying it around all day, the stick clattering alond behind her, while she siamese howls at me to just STOP what I'm doing and play.

Also a good note: all our pictures are on a broken computer, including the only picture of me I really like, and dh and someone from his IT department recovered them all today. :) More importantly the cats' baby pictures are all on there!

Very, very glad to hear that Sue.

Make sure you take care of yourself too.

Sending all our good wishes to you and your family. :)

    Hi Jelly,

I agree, for the most part, they wouldn't have been out of place with the freaks in the BB House, but I did like the young woman from Newcastle. The fact that she was chosen by the foreman to go back and dig and kept up with the men even when the other guy couldn't go out and work (and was the first woman to do the job) spoke volumes. She was also the least likely to make excuses and the most understanding of the hardship people endured.

It was shocking though to see conditions from biblical times still endure in modern society, particularly when juxtaposed with the fact that they are living in abject poverty while producing luxury goods.
