Terracotta warriors for me....perhaps I must start manufacturing in China so the cost can be offset against tax.:D
Yonks ago, I read a book about the Dragon Queen, then I watched the Last Emperor.
I have no one to go with.
I have umpteen friends/ cousins who will holiday with me at the drop of a casual invitation. They will go to just about any city or beach I care to mention and quite happily get sozzled at the pool/bar while I go out, guidebook in hand.
Someday, I will go to the Forbidden City.
But it wont be with any of my Philistine friends:pRetail is the only therapy that works0 -
If I was going to Italy on a romantic weekend, I would go to the lakes, a few cheap airports around there, we flew to Verona and went to Lake Garda. Grand Hotel Gardone if you want a hotel recommendation.
Just googled that. It looks georgous - v posh. Makes me wish we'd got married in a cheaper month. If we could switch our anniversary to Apr/Oct we'd be fine.

A few days off & I have to read 8 pages of stuff!
fc123 - there is a jellylaw which bans the throwing away of books! There will always be various homes for books. I love books. I struggle to walk past a charity shop, as I'm always looking for more books to buy. Even though I don't have the space for them, I still search for good books.
lir I watched Heston. Now, I like food, & I enjoy cooking, but really, is it really worth all that bother & messing about? No doubt he has talent, but I'm not sure he's actually found his niche, other than pratting about & giggling.
wageslave - you have 2 admirers from your ebay ventures & not picked up on the flirtations & virtual proposals here?
carolt I recall a school trip to Belgium. Went to loads of places, including a day into holland. Loved it, & have always intended to return. Never had the time/money/anyone to go with (or a combination of all 3). In honesty, haven't had a proper holiday since 2000 - went for a week away, & the oil refineries got blockaded. Came back to something from 28 days later!
Had a quite-ish easter. Went to the tip with a load of stuff (as did virtually everyone else judging by the queue to get in!) Put up my 2nd pvc greenhouse, planted my beans, courgettes & cucumbers. Now worried as there is a frost predicted for the next 2 days! It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

lastminute.com is your friend; phone them and ask them what they can do, they seem to be more flexible on the phone.

Yes, I think it would worth that. Not on a daily basis in your new kitchen, but its like saying electronics should be banned from music  or the missionary position will always do. Its not meant to be a daily thing of fueling the body but a treat, a tantilisation of the senses. So while I wouldn't be papering my house with edible wall papers for dinner parties, let alone a supper en famille, I would have loved to lik that wall paper last night....instead I have to make do with being excited that other people got to lick it.
I'm mourning the lettuce we planted out under a polything (its not a tunnel, its a sort of pyramid). The bloody slugs are determined to ruin us....muching their way through everything. Ours have got wise to the dangers of hiding in a grapefruit, seem to have developed immunity to coffee.....and our garden seem to be the very beacon for them. I think I'm going to buy slug pellets, this just cannot go on.
An egg update: They all seem to be doing very well. The incubator is in our drawing room and makes a lovely purring noise. I'm very impressed with how low maintenance this model is. I haven't yet needed to top up with water, it just is rocking the eggs, and purring.0 -
Have you tried putting beer out for the slugs? They like it but once they're drunk they fall in and drown.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

We did try in the past, maybe we should try again? I'm getting a bit desperate: they are HUGE slugs, even the chickens are terrified of them!
edit: I have thought of trying copper....0 -
Love the idea of chickens terrified of slugs! lol!0

yes well, if only they were so afraid of us. Tweed's training sessions were going well, after he got a little bolshy, and he now doesn't chase me, but he had a go at my dad at the weekend. He doesn't hurt, he's just trying to protect his girls. He particularly hates me cuddling Chicken Bang-Bang. But its very poor manners and not to be encouraged.

night time walk, torchlight, pair of scissors. Very satisfying. We have a slug infestation and buy the eco-friendly blue pellets. No idea what the difference is as it still contains metaldehyde.
If making traps, don't waste beer, they are attracted to the smell of yeast so just get some yeast and stir it up with some warm water. The problem is emptying the traps....
The other option is nematodes, I'm getting a bulk order. Sprinkle it on with a watering can and watch exploding slugs. They definitely work but cost. I think it's getting to the point where it's cheaper for me to buy vegetables from waitrose than to grow them myself. :rotfl:0
