I've heard that Coventry is actually quite overrated.

I was actually talking about Glasgow. We call it Idiot City up here:p

Italian riveria is lovely...but also filled with octogenarians.

Why not see what deals you can get on hotels? I've had some good successes with lastminute top secret hotels...or peruse the other grown up type hotel/holiday sites for inspiration. Makes one want to spend lots though....

I really, really fancy Morocco. (but obviously too far for you...but ryan air fly there I think.)

Agree, Morocco looks v romantic - and gorgeous food too - but I think we'd need more time.

Are you in Glasgow or nearby Miss Slave? We've had a few weekends in Glasgow and like it up there. Always seems to be raining when we go though.

I feel bad now about my elderly comment. There are younger spots of course. But generally Italy can sometimes feels older.

    About 90 odd miles.

I love Glasgow, the people are like no one else anywhere.

I am rather fond of the statues too. Every one comes complete with its very own traffic cone

EDIT It's Scotland we do rain in a big way

I wouldn't call Zurich romantic, but interesting - a bit different from your usual places. Also known for diamond sellers ;)

Italian riviera, is that Rimini? It does sound old.

If I was going to Italy on a romantic weekend, I would go to the lakes, a few cheap airports around there, we flew to Verona and went to Lake Garda. Grand Hotel Gardone if you want a hotel recommendation.

I am vacillating between buying a Betty Jackson jacket and new Uggs with the profits.

Do you think I should do a poll, then? :p

Seriously, I tried looking at mse's very own holiday's board, for inspiration, and found a lovely thread on 'where should I take my gorgeous girlfriend for a romantic weekend?' My favourite answer was 'take her up the aisle', which just sounded kind of rude...

My long list keeps getting longer - I was investigating some of lir's recommendation and kept getting sidetracked via links to things to more and more places. I've now found a bit of Italy called the Italian Riviera which looks rather nice; not sure how accessible it is?

silvercar's mention of Zurich appealed - that's quite high on my list as Zurich is a nice n easy low cost airline hop from airport near us - plus we both love Switzerland. Not been there in about 25 years though. Would you say it was a romantic destination, silvercar?

Yay...:jA Poll...we love polls...not so many on the board now though :(

Narrow it down to 6 destinations.

I'm with FC, Rome is the destination of choice for me.

Apart from the Forbidden City. I long to go there.
Terracotta warriors for me....perhaps I must start manufacturing in China so the cost can be offset against tax.:D

If I've got the geography right - lir can correct me - it's near Genoa, actually - Rimini is on the opposite side (coast) of Italy. ie they're both near the top of the 'boot' but on different coasts.

I went on a (v fondly remembered) holiday to Rimini as a kid, BTW - but I don't think it's especially romantic.

Admittedly, all I really recall is the icecream.
