The Kids for £2 offer doesn't come up on the web-site and I suspect when I go to the ticket office tomorrow they won't mention it. ;)

In Scotland (another First Train Company) the ticket is know as 'Kids go free' ticket and the ticket seller should by default sell them when you ask with kids to go from A to B. If he doesn't and tries to sell you standard Off Peak returns then ask for them by name, then he has no option but to sell them to you.

As to your other points, thanx no harm done and I'm sorry for been a bit sarcastic in my replies.

Be careful with that £18 fare, I couldn't find it anywhere so it might not be valid on First Capital Connect and as they operate a strict Penalty fare policy(£20 per ticket) I would check before travelling.

Anyway nice find those £2 kids fares.
    A penalty fare for Peterborough to London is £52, not £20 (£26 x 2).

However you cannot be issued a penalty fare if you are either off route or travelling at a time that a time-restricted ticket is valid (ie, in this case using a Super Off Peak ticket at a time when it is not valid), if a PF is issued for that it should not be paid and will not be pursued as it is invalid. If you use a Super Off Peak at a time when it is not valid then an excess should be charged to the appropriate ticket, or a new ticket purchased, whichever is the cheaper. (e.g. if you paid £20 and a £25 ticket was required, you would pay £5).

That £18 fare is an Off Peak Day Return valid on FCC only.
Are you sure? £18 seems to be the price of a Super Off Peak Day Return. An Off Peak Day Return is £23.

Darlington to London KX on 18th Nov & returning 20th.

    Leave around 9.30am & return approx. 2-3pm

Best prices I can find are £78ish return.

Can anyone help with the split tickets to save any cash

    Thanks

    Clearly I got it wrong.

But that doesn't really matter, for a number of reasons...

    1) my reply was to help another poster understand the issue. The emphasis was on return.

    2) the original query was raised by blindman, and it is clear that he knew which ticket to buy...

A Super Off Peak ticket on the FCC at 10:18 is £63.00*

    3) they travelled last Saturday.

    Thanks for your help Yorkie.

*that price is for two adults and three children.

Looks like I made a mistake as well, but when the OP quoted a £18 single fare, I couldn't find it, so thought better advise him to be careful and check that he had a valid ticket as I didn't want him to pay any more cash because of a simple mistake.

I'm sure your post will help the OP?

Hi there, don't use the train much so just wanted to check if I have found the best price for 2 Adults travelling 24/11/10:

Swindon - Paddington (or any London station connected to the tube - we are heading to the Natural History Museum)

    Leaving Swindon between 9-11am
    Returning to Swindon by 8-11pm.

    £28.00 outbound - 10.11am
    £19.00 return - 8.45pm

    £47.00 total

We aren't able to get any railcard discounts.

Thanks for your time folks :)

If that's the total price for two people I really can't see you getting it any cheaper
  • London Euston - Carlisle

Currently £92 and even if you look 6-8 weeks in advance, they're still the same prices.

Help anyone? Would be much appreciated!
